GOOOOOOOODDDDDD MORRRRNIIIIIINNNNGGG! Man what an electric night for baseball, getting kicked off in good fashion. and are dancing about the kitchen and into the workplace this morning!

Update: Jersey Slice finally recorded a second episode and that will be put up hopefully today. If not today then this weekend.

Highlights this morning-
1. Can we talk about how Boston had a 33% chance of winning the game before the first pitch last night?! 33!!!! And what’s that? THEY WON! Bello pitched a solid 5 on his first opening day stand on the mound. In the first inning he struggled a bit but his defense had his back, he settled in after that only allowing 2 earned runs in 15 outs.
2. Boston bullpen is a bit of a toss up this year and we’re hard pressed to see how the other starters perform and Bello continues to perform.
3. Boston’s offense was so well put together, and everyone single starter got at least one hit. Way to go Boston, winning when the odds are against you and you’re away from home.
4. I covered a lot of things in the podcast that I thought NY did well yesterday and who is on the lookout to shine this year. What I didn’t do was talk much about the critiques. Nestor Cortes pitched alright for the first game of the season, and the offense bailed him out. His first couple innings were rough and I thought they missed quite a few key scoring opportunities early on with the offensive side of the ball (hitting into 3 double plays in the first 4 innings). Definitely going to be watching how the starting rotation handles 2 months without Gerrit Cole. Overall, I think the offense pulled together and the bullpen held on tight for a nice 5-4 win. Key play being Soto throwing a running out at home to keep Houston from tying the score.

what do you think?

Opening Day belongs to Tyler O'Neill.

Boston is not expected to beat Seattle but that doesn't stop us for rooting for a W and a series win.

So, in LeMahieu's absence, the third baseman will be Oswaldo Cabrera, who will bat last. Cabrera's average during spring training was .213. Compared to Cara's lineup, they switched Rizzo and Torres, Soto, and Judge. In comparison to Joe's lineup, Soto, Judge, and Stanton are all correct; the rest are all moved around somehow.

Our lineup in Houston.

Good afternoon, Boston Red Sox fans! How are my rivals and friends from Boston? As promised, Jersey Slice has Joe and my opening-day lineups that we would set up. Then, of course, I will share the actual lineups separately.

The starting pitcher should be Brayan Bello, the young righty from the DR. I (Cara) had the unique opportunity to see him pitch live, and this kid has some talent and some great stuff. It will be cool to see him in action as the number-one starter in the rotation. I love Joe's line-up and how it starts with speed, so much so that I wholeheartedly agree. We shall see what Alex Cora thinks. I moved Trevor Story down lower in the lineup mainly because he has been so injury-stricken the last couple of years that he may need a few series before he moves back up to the middle of the lineup. Pitching will be interesting to watch in the first few months, especially in the bullpen; there are few lefties, and none of the starting pitchers are southpaws. Good Luck, Socks! Beat Seattle!

Joe's Line-up:
1. Jarren Duran #16 CF (L/R) .295
2. Masa Yoshida #7 DH (L/R) .289
3. Rafael Devers #11 3B (R/R) .271
4. Triston Casas #36 1B (L/R) .263
5. Trevor Story #10 SS (R/R) .203
6. Ceddanne Rafaela #43 LF (R/R) .241
7. Enmanuel Valdez #47 2B (L/R) .266
8. Wilyer Abreu #52 RF (L/L) .316
9. Connor Wong #13 C (R/R) .235

Cara's Line-up:
1. Jarren Duran #16 CF (L/R) .295
2. Masa Yoshida #7 DH (L/R) .289
3. Rafael Devers #11 3B (R/R) .271
4. Wilyer Abreu #52 RF (L/L) .316
5. Enmanuel Valdez #47 2B (L/R) .266
6. Triston Casas #36 1B (L/R) .263
7. Trevor Story #10 SS (R/R) .203
8. Ceddanne Rafaela #43 LF (R/R) .241
9. Connor Wong #13 C (R/R) .235

What do you think the lineup should be? Will the Red Sox be above .500 by May? Do you have any predictions or comments?

What's up, New York Yankees fans?!! Jersey Slice has assembled some mock line-ups for our favorite teams as part of Opening Day fun.

First Up, we have the
We know that the starting pitcher is none other than the southpaw, Nasty Nestor Cortes Jr.! The 29-year-old pitcher has an overall ERA of 3.82, which is solid for a starting pitcher. He has struggled in his few appearances in Spring Training (a 7.71 spring training ERA), but we're hopeful for a healthy Nestor who can strike out many batters on his nasty pitches. Boo, the Astros!

Cara's Line-Up:
Name (Jersey Number) Po. B/T AVG
1. Anthony Rizzo ( #48) 1B L/L .389
2. Aaron Judge ( #99) CF R/R .208
3. Juan Soto ( #22) RF L/L .304
4. Giancarlo Stanton ( #27) DH R/R .317
5. Gleyber Torres ( #25) 2B R/R .356
6. Anthony Volpe ( #11) SS R/R .314
7. Alex Verdugo ( #24) LF L/L .237
8. Jose Trevino ( #39) C R/R .250
9. J. Berti ( #5)/O. Peraza ( #91) 3B R/R .229/.000

Now, the batting AVG is based on spring training. Rizzo has batted first many times, but as you'll see in Joe's line-up, he would put Verdugo in first. I like Rizzo first because he does a decent job starting it off. With DJ LeMaHieu out with a foot bruise injury at the beginning of the season, 3B's shoes will be filled by other players. I like the idea of Jon Berti, as we just acquired him yesterday and added him to our roster. However, because he was just added to the Yankees, Oswald Peraza may be catching ground balls from third base until DJ's return. I (Cara) actually agree with Joe's opening line-up, putting Verdugo at bat first. I see Boone lining up someone like Rizzo first, but another possibility we could even see is Soto batting first. Volpe is performing better than last year, so I would not put him later; I would put him in the mid-to-late line-up.

Joe's Line-Up:
Name (Jersey Number) Po. B/T AVG
1. Alex Verdugo LF L/L .237
2. Juan Soto ( #22) RF L/L .304
3. Aaron Judge ( #99) CF R/R .208
4. Giancarlo Stanton ( #27) DH R/R .317
5. Gleyber Torres ( #25) 2B R/R .356
6. Anthony Rizzo 1B L/L .389
7. Jose Trevino ( #39) C R/R .250
8. J. Berti ( #5)/O. Peraza ( #91) 3B R/R .229/.000
9. Anthony Volpe ( #11) SS R/R .314

What are your predictions for the starting line-up? How many wins will we have by the end of April? Are we playoff-bound or rebuilding?

28/03/2024

HAPPY OPENING DAY EVERYONE! I will be posting my (Cara's) line-ups for both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. These are just my predictions/how I would line everyone up. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe opening day. IT IS FINALLY TIME FOR BASEBALL!
