We’re thrilled to announce that award-winning songwriter, musician and actor Janelle Monáe will be honored with the Vanguard Spotlight Award at the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards. 💫

Celebrating a trailblazer who ignites the imaginations of cognoscenti and audiences alike, the Costume Designers Guild Vanguard Spotlight Award is a tribute to a performing artist who sets new standards in their arena, not only for their outstanding achievements but also for their courage as a visionary that serves as an inspiration to us all.

Monáe has established themself as an icon in every medium they have entered throughout their career, making their mark on music, acting, and fashion. Their bold, distinct style has made them a standout, whether on stage or on the red carpet. This year’s Costume Designers Guild Vanguard Spotlight Award honors their distinct style vision and makes them the second-ever recipient of the award following last year’s inaugural honoree Billie Eilish.

The annual awards ceremony will take place live on Thursday, February 6 at The Ebell of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. This year, the CDG proudly welcomes back the Western Costume Company as the Premiere Sponsor of the 27th CDGA.

We are thrilled to announce Salvador Perez as the recipient of the 27th CDGA Distinguished Service Award! 💫

Salvador Perez is a celebrated costume designer known for his work in film, TV, and beyond. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, he transitioned from fashion to costume design, contributing to films like “Titanic” and “The Flintstones.” Perez’s standout projects include The Mindy Project (Emmy-nominated), Pitch Perfect 1-3, and Hocus Pocus 2 (CDG and Emmy nominations). He has also collaborated on fashion lines with Bauble Bar and Gilt.com. A three-term President of the Costume Designers Guild, Perez’s dedication to storytelling and tailoring excellence is evident in his recent work on Rebel Wilson’s “Bride Hard.”

We are thrilled to announce Jenny Beavan as the esteemed recipient of the 27th CDGA Career Achievement Award. 🌟

Jenny Beavan, OBE, is a renowned costume designer whose visionary work has earned her acclaim on both U.S. and international stages and screens. Her costume design career spans over 40 years leaving an indelible mark on us with her fascinating designs for projects like “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Cruella,” “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” “Sherlock Holmes,” “Sense and Sensibility,” to name a few. She came to prominence for her decade-long collaboration with John Bright on creating the costumes for Merchant Ivory Productions. She has won three Academy Awards, four BAFTA’s, two Emmys, an Olivier award, and numerous CDGAs.

We are thrilled to announce that award-winning actress Zoe Saldaña will be honored with the Spotlight Award at the 27th Costume Designers Guild Awards. 🌟

The Spotlight Award celebrates an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special appreciation of the importance of Costume Design.

Widely known for powerful roles which captivate audiences, Saldaña can inhabit a costume and make the character come alive no matter how elaborate or otherworldly. From Neytiri in the Avatar films and Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Saldaña embraces being immersed in her costumes. For those respective roles, Saldaña worked with 2023 CDGA Career Achievement Award honoree Deborah L. Scott and 2017 Excellence in Fantasy Film winner Alexandra Byrne and 2013 CDGA Career Achievement Award honoree Judianna Makovsky.

The CDG Honors Eddie Marks Eddie Marks was perhaps our industry’s greatest unsung collaborator of the past three decades. As president of Western Costume, Marks was an employer, mentor, unwavering supporter, and dear friend to many in the costume community. He was as invaluable to our members as the costumes he rented. As a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication, it is with great excitement that the Costume Designers Guild, Local 892, and the Motion Picture Costumers, Local 705, join forces to create an opportunity that inspires and empowers aspiring costume designers through the creation of the Eddie Marks Costume Scholarship. The scholarship will be available starting January of 2025. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to mark your calendar for this important date.
