đź’ś Full circle moments with our 26th CDGA Career Achievement Award honoree Francine Jamison-Tanchuck!

Francine’s career spans 50 years and encompasses over 60 films, including recent works like “The Piano Lesson,” “The Color Purple,” “Emancipation,” “Detroit,” and “Birth of a Nation,” as well as the classic films “Corrina, Corrina,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Virtuosity,” “Big Momma’s House” and “Courage Under Fire.” Jamison-Tanchuck’s impact also extends to iconic looks for television in “The Wire.”

The significance of “The Color Purple” is deeply personal to Jamison-Tanchuck, having served as costume supervisor on the original 1985 film to costume designer and mentor Aggie Guerard Rodgers. The 2023 musical adaptation, co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, felt like a homecoming. Jamison-Tanchuck worked closely with director Blitz Bazawule and the cast to transform the characters through a forty-year span with special considerations for movement; the result captivates and inspires.
