In/Words Magazine & Press was founded in 2001 by Professor Collett Tracey and a team of her students. It has since evolved into a family of magazines, a chapbook press and a monthly reading series. The editing team consists of Carleton University students and alumni, all of whom are accomplished writers in their own rights. In the past there have been two sister publications that ran alongside In/

Words Magazine throughout the academic year: The Moose & P***y, Canada’s sex-enthusiasts’ journal; and Mot Dit, a french-language literary publication. Unfortunately, these two publications have fallen into hiatus. The In/Words Chapbook Project publishes a series of brief collections of poetry and prose every year. The editing team solicits work from promising writers who appear in the magazine or frequent the weekly writers’ circles. In/Words strives to be conscious of the traditional importance of small press publishing in Canada. It is very much a local entity that emphasizes hands-on production from the first word to the last staple.
