This is Eva. She works in construction in Texas. She told me that she lost much of the vision in her left eye because of the extreme heat. In 2023, 334 outdoor workers died in Texas due to heat. The number is likely much higher, because many times these deaths are associated with a secondary factor, like heart disease. Extreme heat kills more people than climate-fueled storms, fires and floods combined. And the crazy thing is: in some places, this will NOT be something we can just adapt to. 📸:

We had to wear gas masks while filming in East Palestine, Ohio. Making documentaries is not easy. We have months and months of pre-production, pestering partners for more info, shooting long hours in the field, writers rooms hammering out story beats, editing many rough cuts, getting feedback, QCing those cuts, getting graphics made, keeping coalitions happy… it’s real work to do good investigative storytelling. Here’s my DP in his mask. 😷🤿Trust I was in one as well.

It’s that time again! Seeds are starting, and last frost is coming. The light is getting brighter and longer. The earth is trying to keep up with us humans, and we can still nurture her with every step, every breath, sweet and light.

This is what it looks like when you and Tha Crew are trying to hide from a drone Hero shot of … but you’re on an Hawaiian island road where there’s nowhere else to hide for a mile. 😂🙈Thus: The truck.

Note the teensy drone in the upper right hand corner.

JOIN US for this fiery discussion during CLIMATE WEEK! 🔥

We are living through a great transition. While climate change is radically altering our planet on our daily lives, many still see it as a crisis decades away. Meanwhile, predominantly black, indigenous, and communities of color are grappling with very current consequences. Filmmakers like myself are working to tell better stories and to share the narrative tools that have long proven successful in Hollywood with climate activists. Join myself and some amazing other documentary filmmakers for a practical discussion around moving the needle of our climate narrative towards action. Also included is a stellar group of indigenous leaders looking at indigenous traditional ecological knowledge as an essential part of climate policy and leadership, while avoiding exploitation.

When I first had a call with Sharon Lavigne, my first question for her was: Why don’t you move?!? As someone who had moved around my whole childhood, I didn’t understand why people would stay in a place called Cancer Alley. But after hearing about her many generations of family in that area, and being welcomed with open arms by a very strong community whenI filmed this with her… I got it. And I really wanted to tell her story.

Produced by yours truly ☺️

When an international corporation wanted to drop a massive polluting factory right in her backyard, Sharon and her group RISE St. James decided to fight back. See what happens when residents say “enough is enough” in Cancer Alley. This is a people's story of resilience, remembrance, and reclamation. Visit the link in mine and bio. (Pro-Tip: the full piece is 🔥🔥🔥!)

So prior to have produced this piece on the sacred lands of the Diné and Hopi tribes. It was a true honor. Also loved working with our crew: DP , Sound , AC , and AP .

Native Renewables is bringing solar energy to indigenous families in tribal land. This Native-led, nonprofit organization is providing a sustainable option for households that have no other access to electricity. Visit the link in the Years bio and follow to learn more!

This is Brush Mountain, right on the Appalachian Trail.
To the left is a fracked gas pipeline called Mountain Valley Pipeline. It is 300 miles and would be visible for 100 miles while hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Behind us, you can see the path of destruction they’ve carved through a pristine temperate rainforest. Zoom in.
This land sits above a porous cave-riddled limestone landscape where one explosion or spill affects multiple waterways. They didn’t care.
The people of this area have had land taken by eminent domain, been bullied by pipeline people, and faced the death of their animals and wildlife. They’ve been fighting back for 8 years, and if you think direct action doesn’t work, tell that to the lawsuits that were helped by activist tactics so the slow court systems could catch up. People in this area said Hell No.
All of this at a time when renewables have never been cheaper or more impressive. This outdated fossil technology needs to end, for the sake of a livable planet. Not tomorrow, or in ten years. NOW.

Excited for this IG Live with and Kiliii Yuyan] for the . Friday at 1pm EST!
There is a lot of crossover with Kiliii Yuyan] and my work:
We both focus on frontline communities of color that may not often be in front of a lens, often in wild places that are being ravaged by changing weather and rising seas. We both work with cameras to get an audience to care about a place far removed from them. It’s not easy, and I have questions for Kiliii as well! 🤓

A thought that's been wandering my brain a lot lately : Every living being on this planet responds to love. ☀️From plants, to cows, to humans, to octopus friends 🐙... To approach another Being with love is to recognize their inherent value just being here on this planet we all share. And it opens them to you.

What a bright honor to be one of the 50 Fixers building a more just, equitable and beautiful future! 😇🙏🏽✊🏽 It was also such a legit surprise cuz I mostly interview other people and my story is generally behind the lens these days! 🎥

Grist chose to feature me among 49 other activists who show that a better climate future is possible. 🌏We’re not done because we are nowhere near zero emissions or a livable future, but this is a little light on the path. 💡🦄

Please check out my full interview about my work, linked in my Bio: Grist50

I’m a private person. I’ve heard my own story for years so I often turn to other things. 👀

When I joined IG, it was solely to influence people about loving this unique, alive planet 🌊🌱and taking action on the climate crisis. 🌍But I learned again that people are interested in people, even as I mostly take comfort in things that are not manmade: the plants, the animals, the stars. 🪐

Something cool happened to me recently, an ✨honor✨that I received. I’ll share about it more this month, so please stay posted to my page. This is one of the shots we took for it, and a few BTS shots.

“Today I’m flying low
and I’m not saying a word.
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.
The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.
Stillness.
One of the doors into the temple.”

Happy 40-summmthing wedding anniversary to my parents. You have gotten inexplicably shorter in stature, but your bond has only gotten stronger. Thank you for your steady love, and inspiring an old-fashioned (often frustrating) belief of commitment in me, amidst a world of broken relationships. You were, and always will be, an inspiration and an aspiration. 🤍

Why I created Gungho Eco

I work as a film and tv producer with The Years Project, one of the largest climate media organizations. We were basically talking about climate before it got hot. This is my web home with my musings, combining many decades of environmentalism with the recently-woke climate movement.

Thank you for your dedication to sharing these videos, and for remembering how wonderful and SPECIAL this planet is.
