After a couple long days of hoping something would pop up... there is finally something! (but not where you would expect!)

There's an area of interest in the Atlantic, which has a low (10%) chance of forming into a tropical or subtropical cyclone. It should run into an unfavorable environment tonight and tomorrow and any chance of Alberto forming from this system should be dead and gone.

The rest of the world remains eerily quiet.

We are now just short of one month until the National Hurricane Center begins to issue tropical weather outlooks for both the Atlantic and Pacific basins. So far, 2024 is shaping up to be more of a neutral to La Nina-esque season, with hot sea-surface temperatures in the Atlantic. Every forecast has called for a high number of named storms, ranging from 20 to 23. This would bring us to the names Valerie, William, Adria, and Braylen. Hurricanes are forecasted anywhere from 9 to 11 during the season, and 4 to 5 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher). As we get farther into hurricane season, we will better understand just how much the storms will take advantage of the environment!

Gamane continues intensifying as it approaches Madagascar. It could become an intense tropical cyclone overnight before getting even CLOSER to the coast. Mauritius and Reunion should monitor Gamane closely.

Update on TROPICAL CYCLONE GAMANE

Gamane was named earlier today and has intensified quickly into a Category 1 cyclone just off the coast of Madagascar. Its appearance has degraded slightly, as dry air slightly intrudes. MFR has altered the forecast to a landfall as an Intense Tropical Cyclone in Madagascar, while JTWC has lowered forecasts and moved it closer to the coast.

Update on TROPICAL STORM 20S

The tropical depression near Madagascar has intensified into a tropical storm (the twentieth in the Southern Hemisphere this season). It is forecast to be near major hurricane equivalent (C3 or higher) in the coming days as it turns towards Reunion and Mauritius. The forecast calls for quick weakening as the storm moves toward the islands, but the weakening will be less dramatic if it gets strong enough.

Tropical Weather Outlook for MARCH 25, 2024

Former Tropical Cyclone Neville has turned post-tropical and is being absorbed by a nearby front as it speeds southwards.

A newly formed Tropical Depression '95S' (likely soon to be renumbered to '20S') poses a threat to Madagascar, Mauritius, and Reunion as it is expected to become an Intense Tropical Cyclone in the Southwest Indian Ocean.
