FLUX Wealth Announcement
From the summit of #Maunakea to the urban core of #Honolulu, in the Wealth issue, the writers, photographers, artists, and activists share today's stories from these very spaces to reexamine and redefine what progress and prosperity looks like in Hawai‘i.
Discover how the movement on the #mauna are sparking and inspiring the next generation; about a co-op in Waihe‘e, #Maui of friends returning to the currency-free backcountry lifestyle of their ancestors; and the rewards and risks for formerly houseless families at Kahauiki Village, an experimental private-public hybrid model being tested on O‘ahu. The cover photo is of 19-year-old student and protector Pumehana La by photographer Melanie Shih-Lan Tjoeng, accompanied by images of kia‘i by Jonathan Canlas. #FLUXWealth #nmgnetwork
Announcing our new issue of FLUX. The theme: Tribes. The stories featured within explore the meaning of tribes in what feels like an increasingly polarized and divided society this year. How can they bind us together, what are their limits, and how can the disparate and overlapping tribes — of which we all belong — build stronger bridges to each other's communities across the islands?
On the cover, artist Nicole Maileen Woo photographed by Chris Rohrer for a profile on The Pōpolo Project, whose members collectively explore and expand on Black identity in #Hawaii
