PROMISING STARS
TEXT: NUM. 24:14-19
VERSE OF THE DAY:
_"I SHALL SEE HIM, BUT NOT NOW, I HAVE BEHOLD HIM, BUT NOT NIGH: THERE SHALL COME A STAR OUT OF JACOB, AND A SCEPTER SHALL RISE OUT OF ISRAEL"- NUM.14:17._
When one is called a promising star, it means that such a one has prospects of greatness or achieving great feats in life and destiny. Thus, every destiny bearer is a star added to the firmament, signifying the glory the child will add to the world as a gift from God, Mtt.2:1-2, 9-10. Nevertheless, many of these promising stars who showed prospects of greatness initially, tend to be hampered along the way: they never transition from promising stars to real shining stars. Why is this so?
Our text today reveals some of the reasons why promising stars never really manifest greatness ultimately. First is that some evil person(s) spotted the destiny and went ahead to shut it down, vs15. That was the case of Israel on the plain of Moab, Num. 22:1-7. Barak, afraid of what Israel could become, deployed many strategies together with a polytheistic soothsayer, Balaam, just to curse Israel. God in His omniscience often packages destinies in sealed and mysterious formations, but once an evil person spots it, that destiny is truly under attack.
Secondly is the procrastination syndrome, vs 17:- Yesterday is a cleared cheque: tomorrow is a blank cheque: you have only today at your disposal. Refuse to be called 'future champion’ or ‘leader of tomorrow’, Dan 7:4. You will only become tomorrow who you are becoming today. How I wish you knew how great your destiny is and never slack in maximizing every day in order to become what is written in the volumes of the book concerning you, Jn. 9:4.
Finally is the issue of wrong personal indulgence: What you do with the powers, gifts and advantages granted you as a destined seed of eternity, will, to a large extent, determine whether you will remain a promising star only, or transit from a promising star to a shining star. For example, Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob; Tamar, the daughter of David; Absalom the third son of David, and many others who had prospects of greatness initially, never truly fulfilled destiny because of the wrong choices they made. Following our text, Israel eventually attracted divine wrath upon them due to their wrong choice, consequent upon Balaam's evil counsel, to commit whoredom and idolatry, Num. 31:16. If only you know how great your destiny is, you will beware of your choices and lifestyle.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, please move me from a promising star to a shining star in Jesus' name, Amen.
