CWBC CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH A SPECIAL EVENT AT THE WELLINGTON COUNTY MUSEUM & ARCHIVES
Aboyne, Ont. – The Centre Wellington Black Council (CWBC) and Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) are thrilled to partner for a special Black History Month event on Sunday, February 16, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This vibrant celebration of Black history and culture promises an afternoon of captivating performances and engaging activities.
Headlining the event is Acoustic Steel, a five-member steel pan band that brings the soulful island sounds of the Caribbean to life, including
• Carol Taylor on tenor pan, playing mesmerizing melodies;
• Cheryl Dietrich on double seconds, blending rhythm and melody;
• Murcheson Callender on guitar pans, laying down the groove;
• Rob Hartung on cello pans, playing rhythm and bass;
• Sam Olgovie on electric bass guitar; and
• Safo Taylor Asumang on djembe, adding dynamic percussive beats.
For over twelve years, Acoustic Steel has delighted audiences at various functions and festivals throughout the community. Their music, rich with rhythm and melody, transports listeners to the heart of the Caribbean. Their performance will feature interactive singing, including beloved Caribbean children's songs, inviting the audience to join in and celebrate together.
This event is a part of CWBC's ongoing commitment to honoring and showcasing the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the Black community. Attendees can look forward to an enriching experience filled with music, history, and community spirit.
