The New Engagement New lit & art mag telling stories of & by POC, indigenous, and LGBTQI communities & ANYONE whose work is personal, probing, nuanced.

The New Engagement publishes literature and art telling stories of resistance and resilience from the POC, LGBTQI, and indigenous communities, and by anyone whose work is socially conscious, intensely personal, nuanced, and not afraid to explore issues of race, ethnicity, gender, class, ability or other intersectional boundaries, as well as our relationships to both the built and natural environme

nt. We are proud to publish writing of the highest caliber from seasoned authors along with the fresh voices of new writers who have never before been published. Each month we release an online issue that features 8-12 pieces of literature (short fiction, poetry, essays, drama) and 6-10 pieces of art (paintings, illustrations, photography, and short films or feature film clips). We consistently feature our writers and artists in organic and paid promotions via our traditional marketing and social media channels, which are growing every month, to reach the widest audience possible. We want our contributors' works to be seen, read, and enjoyed! Beginning in March 2017, we will be publishing a quarterly print journal featuring some of the best of our submissions. We recently awarded The 2016 James Baldwin Literature Prize of $1,000 to a poetry collection by Hafsa Musa. Details on forthcoming contests can be viewed on our website. We also nominate six writers every autumn for a Pushcart Prize.
