About Us

The Los Alamos Reporter was founded in September 2018 by Maire O’Neill as a forum for news from the Los Alamos, New Mexico area and beyond. Born and raised in Ireland, Maire spent several years working and traveling in Europe before coming to the United States in 1983. She is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Maire lived in Nevada for many years where she wrote for rural newspapers and was a stringer for the Reno Gazette Journal and Nevada Magazine. She also worked for the Stealth Fighter program at Tonopah Test Range, the Yucca Mountain Project at the Nevada Test Site and was the owner/operator of a bed and breakfast inn for a while. Maire lived in Eastern Washington with her husband Mike and daughter JoAnna for four years before relocating to Los Alamos in 2005.

Maire spent some 20 months proudly writing for the Los Alamos Daily Post before setting out on her new adventure – the Los Alamos Reporter. She plans to continue to write primarily about law enforcement, public safety, civil and criminal court cases and the Los Alamos National Laboratory while adding other local and regional stories that pique her interest. The Los Alamos Reporter will also feature columns, opinions and announcements. No print edition is planned and there will be no advertising on the online news page.
