Simon Perkins grew up in Manchester, Vermont and spent his childhood fishing the Battenkill, sitting in duck blinds, exploring turkey woods, and hiking ruffed grouse covers. He attended Middlebury College where he majored in English and American Literature with a focus in creative writing, lettered in soccer and played in a band named after the Florida retirement community on Seinfeld where Jerry'
s parents lived. After graduating from college, he packed up a U-Haul and moved west to work full-time for PRO as both a fly-fishing and bird-hunting guide. After 11 years of guiding, he moved back to Manchester where he currently lives with his wife, two kids and four dogs. Today, his full-time job is with the Orvis company, supporting the teams focused on brand content, marketing, conservation, and product. But the need for individual creative expression is constant, and thanks to an amazing family who loves to support him, Simon still find time for storytelling and loves to carry his camera around with him on all adventures. Simon's interest in film started during his days guiding on the water and in the field. He became intrigued with trying to capture the soul, spirit, and emotions of fly fishing and hunting on camera. He loved trying to use the screen to tease out that same rush that we feel in the moment. He had no skill and his videos were crap. But he loved it. So he started picking up as much knowledge and inspiration as he could from experienced friends and kept filming and editing. He became fascinated with visual story-telling through film and narrative. He loves capturing moments (especially the ones that are out of our control) and trying to edit them in a compelling way. Sharptail Media isn't just Simon. It is everyone who he convinces to join him on these adventures--his wife, kids, dogs, brother, friends, as well as those who allow Simon to tell their stories. It is incredible to experiment and explore, but just as much fun to be inspired. Simon is grateful to have the Felt Soul Media's and the Rockhouse Motion's of the world who keep him captivated, amazed and in awe. And he thank all the storytellers who are consistently willing to geek out with him on the subject of film. They make it fun and educate him every day.
