It was on a cold, drizzly evening. You were in a hurry to head to your next destination. Distracted by your surroundings, you suddenly felt that you had kicked something just now. Perhaps it was just a small pebble. Perhaps the outsoles of your shoes were just momentarily stuck between the gaps of the cobblestones. You did not think much about it, knowing there was a big night ahead of you. You made your way there, enjoyed yourself, and eventually went home with a big smile on your face.
As you gently took off your shoes, you noticed there was something strange on the cap. You spoke to yourself, 'hang on, I do not recall the medallion looking like that.' In shock, you came to realize the little kick you had encountered earlier the night was a lot more serious. Much more sinister, as a matter of fact. The worst-case scenario has struck you. It was a dent!

Being a menswear writer of Hong Kongese origin, I am often asked about my view on the various tailors that are based out there. One of which is , a bespoke atelier that boasts itself with more than 60 years of history.
So when Prashant Daswani, the current owner of the business, invited me for a showroom visit during my stay in Hong Kong last winter, we came up with the idea of making me a piece that one normally would hardly expect from a Tsim Sha Tsui tailor, for the purpose of illustrating the range Raja can offer.
There was plenty to browse from inside the showroom, given the multiple sub-brands Prashant is running under the wider Raja Fashions banner. Ultimately, what caught my attention was a four-button Norfolk jacket.

Our Liling Overshirt differentiates itself with its asymmetric chest pocket flaps. They are meticulously designed to enable easier access to the pockets, as the opening is shifted toward the center.

Our Liling Overshirt also features Western pointed yokes that are extended sideways. This allows the points to line up harmoniously with the darts, forming a subtle arch shape at the back.

Our residency at 20 Savile Row may have come to an end but there is still time to pre-order our latest Liling Overshirt, a collaborative design we have made with Arkhé Collection, using a washable wool denim fabric from Holland & Sherry.
The Liling features a gentle A-shape silhouette, lending itself to be worn tucked for a 30s-inspired style, voluminous along the waistline, or untucked for an oversized, Eastern style.
Naturally, the highlight of the Liling is its stand collar twist. Most modern shirt designs come with a turned-down collar, one that was in essence created to accommodate a bowtie or necktie.
We asked ourselves whether featuring this configuration on an overshirt still warrants any contemporary sensibility, given neckties are rarely worn together with such garments. Moreover, the double-layered collar would only add unnecessary volume to the neck area, especially when it is placed around a neckerchief and underneath a jacket and/ or overcoat's collar. Stand collar, being the simplest amongst all collars, just makes the most sense.
What's more, we have also paid extra attention to nail down the right collar height, which is 5cm tall. In our experience, raising the collar by a slight touch offers better harmonization between the said garment and the layers around it.
The Liling is now on display at 20 Savile Row (Arterton London Seasonal Showroom) until March 4th.
Intrinsically utilitarian in nature, the Liling features a Western back yoke. Remarkably stylish whilst durable given its double-fold. We have pushed the signature double-pointed yokes further to the side, with their tip directly aligning with the reinforced darts, for a cleaner back.
We highly recommend pairing the overshirt with the Arkhé Chino - Type 1, as the back yoke follows the same design language as the back trouser pocket flaps, not to mention the two pieces were designed in parallel to complement one another.

Pulling inspirations from Eastern pattern-making techniques and Western shirting elements, the Liling features a silhouette that embraces body ergonomics. Design details include an asymmetrical pocket flap on the chest pockets for enhanced ease of access, a Western back yoke with shifted points aligning with the back darts, dropped shoulders, and a heightened stand collar.
The garment is made of olive machine-washable wool denim suiting fabric from renowned British textile merchant, . This enables the overshirt to be soft from the start and will retain its shape over time.

Wrapping up this week's series showcasing the range of silk dupion cloth we use, we have the Tartan Red.

The Cream, aka the champagne-shade silk dupion fabric we simply cannot stop talking about.
There is something deeply alluring about this cloth. Granted, it certainly commands attention from those surrounding the wearer. Yet, it does so with gracefulness, not least because of its intricate texture, but also its intensity in hue — one that is quintessential to the Art Deco palette. It is, perhaps, not too far off to say this colorway also exudes the jubilant spirit typically associated with the era.
Naturally, we recommend making up a single-breasted, peak lapel jacket using The Cream. Perfect as a dinner jacket for all your special occasions.

The Bluebell is a dark horse. On the one hand, it can make up the perfect daytime jacket with its vividness; while its lavender undertone lends itself with subtlety and sophistication, almost resembling Frank Sinatra's dove grey dinner jacket in the film, Pal Joey.
