Suspicious death investigation, Booie (Kingaroy)

QPS Media on Apr 3, 2024 @ 3:05am
A man has been charged with manslaughter after Queensland Police commenced a suspicious death investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at Booie, near Kingaroy, on March 21.

Initial investigations suggested a 21-year-old Nanango man died in a traffic crash on a private property on Kingaroy Barkers Creek Road after the vehicle struck a fence pole, causing critical injuries.

However, additional information now indicates the cause of death was the result of a gunshot wound.

It is alleged the man arrived at the property driving a 2005 Hyundai Sonata around 11.30pm, prior to the incident.

The man was located unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.

Queensland Ambulance Service treated the man before he was transported to Kingaroy Hospital where he later died.

A second man, believed to have been a passenger, fled the vehicle before police and emergency services arrived.

An Investigation Centre has been established to look at the circumstances leading up to and cause of the man’s death under Operation Whiskey Quinta.

As a result, a 38-year-old Kingaroy man has been charged with one count each of manslaughter and insecure storage of weapons.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Murgon Magistrates Court today, April 3.

Investigations are continuing.
