I did "everything I was supposed to do," but I soon realized it wasn't working. I was scared. I had heard plenty from other Women in Tech about the realities of toxic politics in both Big Tech and hyper-growth startups, but nothing I was told truly prepared me for the hard battles ahead.

Lately, when recruiters reach out to me for DevRel or Technical Writing roles, instead of merely explaining that I’m not in the job market, I offer them my consultation services.

👉🏽 You’d be surprised how many people bite.

When I first started tech, I used to offer lots of free coaching and consultation to women in Tech. Over time, as my knowledge and experience grew, I realized I needed to change this. I finally did when I began to receive lots of random requests for free advice from men. 🤣

👉🏽👉🏽 Last year, Nader Dabit told me I was under selling myself and that my experience merited charging at least $100/h.

🤯 I followed his advice and to my surprise, I did not lose customers… Instead, I began to notice they treated me with more respect!

✨ Moral of the story? ✨

Women, stop giving your time, energy, and experience for free. You deserve to charge the same consultation prices that any other man in tech would.
