SPORTS and FAMILY: The Story in Sports
Sports and Family Magazine recognizes the achievements of athletes in middle and high schools, Birmingham area colleges, minor league professional sports, and Special Olympics, on and off the field of play. Sports and Family also tells the stories of coaches, trainers, and teachers who often sacrifice their own personal and family time for the welfare of ot
hers. Sports and Family Magazine illustrates the positive life skills that athletics may have on our youth such as sportsmanship, individual and team effort, perseverance, confidence building, and leadership. And the arena is expanded to other activities such as band, cheerleaders, dance teams, and others that offer students an opportunity to reach their individual goals with their God given talents. And though it is said that sports is not about winning and losing, every player wants to win. And there are seasons when losing seems a way of life. The gut check is to surround yourself with counselors (coaches, teachers, and mentors) who can help develop a Game Plan that answers the question: “What are you doing to better yourself?”; for the character traits you exhibit on the field of play reflects the person you are in life. The Bible commands us to examine ourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5); to look ourselves in the mirror to determine if we are living up to the work habits that will enable us to be successful. I am not suggesting that salvation unto God through faith in Christ is accomplished by works. What is true is that the process of sanctification (becoming Christ-like), just as skills in sports, takes effort. It is also true that some, by nature, may be more talented, gifted, or smarter than others. But all have the same capacity to work hard at a task until it is mastered to your ability. If you do that, then you are a winner; maybe not on the scoreboard, but in life. We are connecting the human race through sports. The drama of competition…
...the thrill of victory…
...and the anguish of defeat. This is The Sports and Family Network
