LOOK AND LIVE

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live."
Numbers 21:8 KJV

THE WORD:
Walking with God is all about "trust and obedience," because He is going to be giving you instructions that may look ridiculous to human understanding.

A king was to face a multitude of army, He instructed him to put singers in the front and play musical instruments while marching to battle.

Snakes afflicted people in the wilderness, He instructed that a bronze serpent be molded, hung on a tree and whoever look will live.

For mankind to be redeemed, He sent His Son to be slain on the cross and He said "whosoever that will look and believe in the finished work, the same will be saved."

It doesn't matter how ridiculous the world may see it, just look and you will live! Follow His instructions and you will never miss the road!

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

BLAZE OF GLORY

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him."
Isaiah 43:7 KJV

THE WORD:
We are the vessels that contain the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:7 says...

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." KJV

Through us, the glory of God as revealed in nature is interpreted and appreciated. Nature exhibits God's glory. His glory is revealed to man’s mind through the material world in many ways, and often in different ways to different people. One person may be thrilled by the sight of the mountains, and another person may love the beauty of the sea. But that which is behind them both (God’s glory) speaks to both people and connects them to God. In this way, God is able to reveal Himself to all men, no matter their race, heritage or location.

Psalm 19:1-4 says,

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." KJV

Among Christians, it is common to hear us talk about the death of a saint as being “received unto glory,” which is a phrase borrowed from Psalm 73:24...

"Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory." KJV

When a saint dies, he will be taken into God’s presence, and in His presence will be naturally surrounded by God’s glory. We will be taken to the place where God’s beauty literally resides, the beauty of His Spirit will be there, because He will be there. In that place, in that blaze of glory, His glory will not need to come through man or nature, rather it will be seen clearly.

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV

FAITH AND CHARACTER

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD."
2 Chronicles 24:21 KJV

THE WORD:
Jehoiada the priest raised Joash as if he was his biological son, yet as the king of Judah, Joash murdered Jehoiada's son, Zechariah. What was the boy's crime? He spoke the Word of God as it was given to him by God concerning the king and the people. Worst still, he was stoned to death right in the temple.

It was this atrocity that Jesus referred to in Matthew 23:35 when He says...

"That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar." KJV

This shows how low we can go as believers trying to conform to the world. King Joash, who was raised by a priest didn't have the character to withstand pressures from the people and choose his own course. He bent whichever way the wind blew. Raised in godly ways with the potentials of being a good king but ended up badly and died miserably.

2 Chronicles 24:25 KJV
"And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings."

His final resting place was exchanged with Jehoiada's. Jehoiada, who was not even in the kingly line but a priest. Yet, he was held in such high regard that he was buried with the kings.

2 Chronicles 24:15-16 KJV
"But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house."

We cannot say that we are a people of God and not be a people of character. Our faith (belief) goes with character. The moment we want to be correct with the world, we are headed for disaster. When we begin to say "I am just being real, I am being myself" and we are conforming to the system of this world, then we have lost our place in Zion. If you are in Christ, your real identity is Christ's. We must not be tossed around by any wind that comes, we must stand firm and make our character align with the faith we profess, else we might be pushed to killing the prophets sent to warn us.

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"
2 Corinthians 6:14 NIV

SOMETHING ABOUT TRIALS...

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ."
1 Peter 1:7 DRB

THE WORD:
Job was an upright man, blessed all-round, feared God and respected all around him. Then things began to happen and he was left with nothing and his body afflicted. In our today's world, tongues would wag, side comments and outright questions about the source of his wealth. Some people will even volunteer false narratives just to feed their envy.

Trials, temptations and all kinds of things must come, nobody is immune to them, and the experience is not palatable, but there's something about trials. It is what it produces, our anchor Scripture for today captures that. If the trials you face today does not produce praise and glory to God, you have failed the exam.

The trial of your faith is much more precious than the material things you lost. Job lost all that mattered to him, including his children in quick succession. But the Lord rewarded him with twice of everything, blessed him with longevity and peace.

"So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses."
Job 42:12 KJV

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD."
Psalms 116:17 KJV

THE WORD:
I believe as humans living on earth, we have so very much to be grateful for. In the light of insecurities, global economic crunch, wars, diseases and epidemics, uncertainties and oppression by the rulers, God kept us till date.

But because we have so much happening around us; trying to pay bills, meet up with demands here and there, we sometimes do not see the things God is doing for us.

Francis Schaeffer once said, "The beginning of man's rebellion against God was, and is, the lack of a thankful heart."

Now, so much have been said about gratitude. The question remains, how do we show gratitude or develop that attitude of gratitude to a God that we don't see?

It is by turning our gratitude into an actionable attitude. It goes beyond the annual thanksgiving services we do in our various churches. It is recognizing that no matter your level or position in life, God has given you something for someone else. God has given you plenty, to share!

I didn't know how much God has given us until we started , I didn't realize how much we could do for the incarcerated, the abused and the defenceless until we launched out.

While explaining the parable of the talents, Jesus talked about giving to the needy and the irony of Him being the recipient. He says in Matthew 25:40...

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (KJV).

The life we live is a debt, and the only way we can repair that debt is by always reaching out to people who fall within our capacity. And there's no way you can know your capacity until you reach out. Whatever God gave to you, He didn't give it to you solely for your own benefit. Be it gift/talent or, material acquisition, He placed it in you, for humanity. He gave you all you have so you can be His ambassador. Just as He went about doing good, He wants you to do same.

This year alone have achieved so much through partnership and collaboration with individuals and corporate entities. A lady who pleaded to remain anonymous donated huge money that saw some inmates out of prison and a number of fresh applications filed in the high court, which some of them have been concluded.

As the year wraps up this month and as a show of gratitude to God, why not join us as we plan on reaching out to inmates and celebrating the season with them. Relatives have abandoned them, the world has judged them, friends have left them, the system has failed them, but God wants to use you to rekindle their hope.

ONE THING IS NEEDFUL...

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
Luke 10:42 KJV

THE WORD:
Jesus visited his friends; Martha and Mary at Bethany. Martha got busy trying to prepare something for the Master to eat, but Mary chose to abide by the Master, to listen to the Word of life coming out from His mouth. The Bible says...

"And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word." (Verse 39).

It takes one with the cultural understanding of the Jews to decipher Mary's posture at the time. According to Jewish tradition, “sitting at the feet” is what a disciple does. Drawing authority from Acts 22:3, apostle Paul says that he was educated “at the feet of Gamaliel.” Gamaliel, was rabbi in Israel, and by Paul's testimony, he was trained by Gamaliel, or one would say, he was discipled by Gamaliel. When Paul was put on trial before the council of Sadducees and Pharisees, he identified himself as a “Pharisee of Pharisees”

Acts 23:6
"But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question."

By commending Mary, Jesus did not make light of Martha's quest in engaging in other activities, rather, He wanted Martha to understand the most important, the most needful. Notice Jesus called her name twice in verse 41, trying to make her realize that Mary wasn't leaving all the chores to her, rather she was engaging herself in the most important aspect of being a disciple from which all else flows.

In our desire to answer and follow God’s call and to serve Him, we can easily find ourselves drawn, and troubled by many things, or be in a hurry to engage in ministry activities thereby neglecting the all important aspect of our call which is abiding at the Master's feet, DISCIPLESHIP.

As disciples, we are called both to sit and to serve, to abide and to bear fruit, to sit and hear the Master's word, to bow at his feet in worship and prayer. It is by abiding that we find strength, wisdom, courage, discernment, and clarity to do the work of ministry.

One thing is needful...

"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
John 15:4-5 KJV

PURGE YOURSELF

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work."
2 Timothy 2:20-21 KJV

THE WORD:
A man named Seriki Faremi Williams Abass was sold into slavery in Brazil. After gaining his freedom, he returned home to become a brutal slave trader himself in Badagry. The Prisons he built for slaves is today a museum in badagry. He unleashed so much brutality on his slaves that Europeans who've seen the worst of slave treatment described him as barbaric.

Sometimes, rather, most times, if we do not consciously purge ourselves, we become the evil we suffered. A lot of people are prisoners of an ugly experience to the extent they become instrument in the hands of Satan to perpetuate wickedness against mankind.

Do not be trapped in the web of wickedness because you seek vengeance. Purge yourself with the Word of God. Find solace and comfort in Christ, He alone can guarantee total freedom from the ugly experiences that haunt you. The devil wants you to continue in that cycle of wickedness and be a vessel of dishonour. There's no satisfaction in it. Destruction is the end game.

"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."

I PREVAIL (2)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day."
Genesis 32:24 KJV

THE WORD:
Another person that prevailed in the Bible is Jacob. It is recorded that Jacob wrestled with God and prevailed. (Genesis 32:24 -28).

After the encounter, Jacob got a limp and a change of name. From being a supplanter, a swindler to the father of a great nation. God can change any situation. It doesn't matter how bad a situation has gotten, if we hold on to God, if we prevail, He will bring a positive change to it.

He was heading to meet his brother Esau, whom he cheated and ran to exile, Esau was also coming to receive him with about four hundred able bodied men. Jacob was uncertain what Esau had in mind. Having suffered in the hands of Laban, he yearned to return home, but Esau who swore to kill him was waiting to receive him.

Jacob feared for what his brother would do to him and his family. And so, he set himself alone all night, seeking God. And he prevailed!

"And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed."

I PREVAIL

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof."
Revelation 5:5 KJV

THE WORD:
Life has a way of wearing us down or out, at times we feel like throwing in the towel. Some have ended it all by su***de, while some others have given up all hope, but God wants to strengthen us, empower us and cause us to prevail.

Yes, we might be facing battles, but we must draw confidence in the fact that we are not alone. God wants to work on our behalf and cause us to prevail, to live a life by His strength in which we overcome, and walk in victory.

To prevail means: to have strength, to be strong, to be powerful, to be mighty, to be great, to gain ascendancy through strength or superiority, to triumph, to be or become effective or effectual.

The Bible contains many accounts of prevailing but one event that stands out for me is the story of David killing the giant Goliath. It is almost an obsession for me because here is a little, untrained shepherd boy with only a slingshot as a weapon boldly challenging a champion and killing him so cheaply.

David, against all odds did the impossible. This is a clear picture of prevailing. And this is how God wants us as kingdomites to live our life!

It is a new month, the second to the last of 2022, and I declare to you today that you are prevailing on all sides! Victory is coming to you at the areas you feel less qualified. God is giving strength to your fingers today!

You shall prevail!!!

"So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David."

GIANT KILLERS (22)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
It is said that a leader is considered successful when he has raised a good successor. Ironically, the world always look for made-men as successors, but it is in the wisdom of God to use the neglected, the never-do-wells, the rejected to accomplish great things.

From nowhere, David came and killed a giant, instead of trained soldiers, warriors and captains gathering around him, it was people who were worse off than he was; people in debt, people in distress and people that were discontented. All the people who were in counseling and therapy went to where David was. He became a captain over them.

I remember Rev. Sam Adeyemi saying that when he saw the caliber of people coming to DayStar when they started, he confronted God that "these were not the people You showed me." But God said, "raise them!"

The rejects that came to David were eventually referred to as "David's Mighty Men" in 2 Samuel 23:8-12. What a great transformation! In a few years time, David's men went from being discontented, depressed, distressed and indebted to being honored as might men!

Giant killers birth their kind! That is the hallmark of who we are!

Before His ascension Jesus gathered His disciples and by extension us; He said...

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."

"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
Everything you are to know at the top must be learned at the bottom. It Is from bottom up, not from top to bottom. Where you are presently is your training ground. The experience you gather today will count tomorrow.

David didn't need to practice with a giant before challenging Goliath. Kill your lion and bear first before stepping out. You must exert yourself where you are now; do all you need to do; learn all you need to learn. Don't evade challenges, face them. The experience you gather while facing them will definitely be useful later.

David made his training days count and referenced it to whoever that cared to listen, even to Goliath.

"For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

GIANT KILLERS (20)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
Giant represents different things to different people. However, a true champion is someone who has defeated his giant. You are not a true champion until you conquer whatever represents giant in your life.

You will always recognize your giant. You either face it and kill it, just like David or be immobilized by it like Saul and his army. It is killing your giant that announces you to your generation; but running away from your giant will create problems for the next generation.

Solomon had rest all around during his reign, because his father, David, fought all the battles and killed all known giants for him; he conquered all the enemies that would have been a threat to Solomon's reign.

"Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

GIANT KILLERS (19)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
In episode 18, we looked at preparation being key to defeating giants. While we prepare physically, we must not downplay on the spiritual. The Bible describes how King Mesha of Moab sacrificed his crown prince to avert a military disaster (2 Kings 3:27).

In Esther 3:7, during the travails of Mordecai and the Jews in the hand of Haman, the Agagite, the Bible states how, everyday, for 12 months, Haman cast divination(lot), to find out which was the most lucky month, and which the most lucky day in that month, to destroy the Jews. Thank God Mordecai understood that the battle was beyond physical and called for a fast.

It wasn't just David's skill in using a slingshot that got Goliath down, but his understanding of the spirituality of the battle and keying into it.

It will be foolhardy to engage in battles relying on just your human abilities, your enemies are consulting diviners for your sake!

"David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."

GIANT KILLERS (18)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
Preparation is key to defeating any kind of enemy at all. What you do when the world is not looking, when you are still at the backside of life will determine how relevant you will become when opportunity shows up.

While with his father's flock in the wilderness, David sharpened his skills in the relevant areas, though with crude tools. He chose slingshot for his major weapon because it was the easiest he could manufacture at the time.

At the auspicious time, it wasn't Saul's gear he wasn't familiar with that gave him advantage , it was rather his slingshot that God used to deliver Goliath into his hands.

Train with what you have, from where you are. Be consistent and active while waiting. Someday, somehow, a giant would show up and it is with what you train with that God will breathe on!

"I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him."

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
1 Samuel 17:4-7(Amplified) gave graphic description of the giant, Goliath and his military gear...

"And a champion went out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span [almost ten feet].
And he had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of mail, and the coat weighed 5,000 shekels of bronze.
He had bronze shin armor on his legs and a bronze javelin across his shoulders.
And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam; his spear's head weighed 600 shekels of iron. And a shield bearer went before him."

From the above, David was no match, humanly speaking. But then, David didn't challenge Goliath relying on his human abilities.

King Saul spoke as a concerned father and king to David in verse 33,

"...Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."

But David relied on the testimony of his encounter with a lion and bear, how God was with him and the zeal to bring honour to the name of the God of Israel.

Giant killers are conscious of the abilities in the Name they represent and the consciousness that it is not by human power that we prevail!

"Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God."

GIANT KILLERS (14)

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)"
2 Corinthians 10:4 KJV

THE WORD:
One significant thing about giant killers is, they build on past success.

In 1 Samuel 17:34-35, David recounted before king Saul how he faced a lion and bear bare hands. Not only did he kill them, he rescued his father's sheep from their mouth.

"But David said to Saul, "Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear;..."

David built his confidence on his previous success and in God’s protection. There's need for us to celebrate those victories of the past we call little. It is on them we build our confidence to face the giants of today and the future. The same God that gave us those victories will still deliver these giants to us!

"Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee."

THE WORD:
For forty days Goliath the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand mocking Saul's army and for forty days they cowered in fear until David came to visit his brother on his father's instructions (1 Samuel 17:16-24).

J. Oswald Sanders said "Eyes that look are common, eyes that see are rare." in verses 28-30 of 1 Samuel 17, when Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he was angry at him and asked, "Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle." "Now what have I done?" said David. "Can’t I even speak?" He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter of Goliath, and the men answered him as before concerning the reward that will be given to whoever that will face Goliath.

One thing you must watch out for in your quest to achieving great strides are critics. They only point out how imperfectly other people do what they critics cannot do at all.

For forty days, Eliab and the rest of the army watched Goliath defy the Lord's army and king Saul placing rewards on who can face the Philistine, yet they all cowered in fear and David moved by a passion for God to be honoured and motivated by the rewards, yet he was rebuked by his elder brother.

One obstacle we have consistently tackled in our work at has come from lawyers. They have tried to disparage our work, raised unfounded allegations, yet God has shown Himself mighty on our behalf. Just last week, a Judge sitting in Port Harcourt openly commended our work and our dedicated lawyers, asking other lawyers to learn from us on how diligent and thorough we do our cases.

For you to be a giant killer, you must be motivated by the rewards ahead and passionate about God's glory. Critics never get the job done and will always discourage others from doing it.

"And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine."
1 Samuel 17:32 KJV
