Caring for your calling starts with the idea that every person living within contemporary American culture undergoes a common set of experiences which includes:
1) Dis-illusionment – a dramatic change in perception of the integrity and prospects for positive change of an entity (ie. institution, society)
2) Dis-integration – an un-binding (as well as questioning) of the characteristics that comprise self-identity
3) Dis-appointment – a loss of momentum in a desired life trajectory and sense of cultural self-location
These experiences are related to one’s sense of, “calling” – to become some-one or to do some-thing – in a given context.
