In the Company of Prayer In the Company of Prayer provides a quick, daily prayer for business professionals We don’t take those skills nor their requisite responsibilities lightly.

The ethical business executive understands that we’ve been given a very specific skill set from above. Yet in spite of this, those of us in positions requiring business acumen have unique barriers to a community of like-thinkers. In the Company of Prayer intends to service such a community with a prayer via email each workday that is short enough to be read off a PDA and is accompanied by a pertin

ent, two-sentence bit of inspiration, such as a quote from a peer, newspaper headline, or bit of scripture.

May our prayers lead us back to words of wisdom.

"Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands." -- Psalm 90:17

Pray for those who've been beaten down; may they not lose their enthusiasm.

"At Alaska Airlines, we have provided prayer cards to our customers for more than 30 years. A former marketing executive borrowed the idea from another airline and introduced the cards to our passengers in the late 1970s to differentiate our service. The cards have been provided only to our First Class customers since meal tray service ended in coach six years ago. Beginning February 1, 2012, however, we'll be eliminating the cards entirely." -- Bill Ayer, Chairman and CEO, Alaska Air Group & Brad Tilden, President, Alaska Airlines, In a letter to their customers

Lord, let me rely on your greatness when facing whatever is keeping me from moving forward.

"It is our greatness rather than our littleness that intimidates us most of all." -- Unknown Author, Sacred Space

22/01/2024

Let us continue to pray for faith and wisdom.

"This is true wisdom, to find a faith that can carry us through darkness, doubt and suffering." -- Unknown Author, Sacred Space

19/01/2024

Let me rely on a character developed through your influence, Lord, in times of stress.

"For it is character through which leadership is exercised; it is character that sets the example and is imitated. Character is not something one can fool people about." -- Peter F. Drucker, The Daily Drucker: 366 Days of Insight and Motivation for Getting the Right Things Done

18/01/2024

Remind me again, Lord, that your plan for me is bigger than my own for myself.

"Success is not forever and failure isn't fatal." -- Ken Blanchard, The Heart of a Leader

17/01/2024

Let us pray.

"Prayer is as essential to the inner life as breath is to the body." -- Don M. Aycock, How to Have a Conversation with God

16/01/2024

May we be the light another may be desperate to see.

"If there was a bright spot in the epic gridlock, it was the Southern-style graciousness. Strangers opened up their homes and volunteers served coffee and snacks to the traffic-bound." -- AP, Helicopters search for stranded Southern drivers

15/01/2024

On my willingness to listen and to hear, I pray.

"Speak, for your servant is listening." -- 1 Samuel 3:10

12/01/2024

Lord, give strength to those praying at work for a miracle.

"Don't pray for miracles. Pray for powers equal to your tasks, and you will be the miracle." -- Pastor Robert Fehlman

11/01/2024

Lord, reinforce in me the flexibility I need to weather the storm.

"Trees look strong compared with wild reeds. But when the storm comes, the trees are uprooted, whereas the wild reeds, while moved back and forth remain rooted and stand up again after the storm has calmed down. Flexibility is a great virtue." -- Henry J.M. Nouwen, Bread for the Journey

10/01/2024

Give me strength against all my enemies, I pray.

"Anxiety is the soul's greatest enemy, sin only excepted. When the heart is anxious and disquieted within itself, it loses the power to preserve those virtues which are already acquired, and also the means of resisting temptations of Satan, who does not fail to test the strength of the rope." -- St. Francis deSales

09/01/2024

For all of us who need healing, please pray.

"We humans can work hard for each other, and we should and we must work. But it is God, and only God, who heals." -- David Wilkerson, The Cross and the Switchblade

08/01/2024

That my leadership results in the advancement of a colleague's goals and aspirations, I pray.

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." -- John Quincy Adams

05/01/2024

Lord, with so many shiny things out there to distract us, let us find and focus on the star of our salvation.

"So why is the feast called Epiphany? The word itself, in its religious connotations, means 'the appearance of a superhuman being.' But the word epiphany can also mean 'a revelation, a realization,' and that's exactly what we recall on this day. On this feast, the significance of Mary's son was revealed to all people--not just shepherds and angels, but Jews and Gentiles alike. For the Magi, this day was truly an epiphany. They followed the star, not knowing what to expect, and it led them to the desires of their hearts." -- Woodeene Koenig-Bricker, 365 Mary

05/01/2024

Lord, help us to remember that though the struggle is difficult, it holds the promise of salvation.

"Something happened to me that hellish muggy day as I sat on the curb seven years ago. For a long time I didn't know how to describe what it was, but now I do. I was saved." -- Joe Eszterhas, Crossbearer

04/01/2024

I need a new beginning and ending, Lord.

"The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety." -- George Mueller from, Streams in the Desert

03/01/2024

For those who have returned to work while still grieving, let us remember in our prayers.

"Winter is a season of some very real losses. The flowers of springtime are gone; leaves fall. Trees stand bare and revealed. But from those losses are gifts to be had." -- Kathleen Fischer, Winter Grace: Spirituality and Aging

02/01/2024

Lord, some truths never change, and for which I give thanks.

"To work is to pray. The well-regulated life does not defer prayer until work has been accomplished; it turns work itself into a prayer. We accomplish this when we turn to God at the beginning and completion of each task and mentally offer it up for love of Him. Then, whether we are nursing a child or making carburetors, turning a lathe or running an elevator, the task is sanctified." -- Fulton J. Sheen, Way to Happiness

01/01/2024

For those needing comfort, we pray.

"God comforts us not to make us comfortable but to make us comforters." -- John Henry Jowett from, Streams in the Desert

29/12/2023

Lord, prepare me for my finest hour of the New Year.

"We are nearing the end of the year. It may be a good time to get reflective about our past. I pose this question: 'What is the one experience which alone could justify your life?' In God's eyes, our moment could have well been some minor incident. It is possible that your most heroic act was to keep your mouth closed in a time of stress." -- Reverend James O'Leary, I Think I Am Happier Than I Think I Am

28/12/2023

Lord, you are the rock of my entire existence.

"The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock." -- Matthew 7:25

27/12/2023

For confidence in overcoming all our obstacles, we pray.

"Fear and anxiety are enemies to creativity and creativity is essential to creating a better future for you and those that you serve and influence." -- subscriber Blain Wease

26/12/2023

Lord, show me ways I can serve.

"Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but also for those of others." -- Philippians 2: 3-4

22/12/2023

Merry Christmas!

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." -- Luke 2: 8-12

21/12/2023

Lord, guide me to serve you by serving others.

"The poet Rumi writes: 'God is at home, it is I who have gone out.' We are the Chowkidars -- the gatekeepers of our own hearts. For whom will we watch this Advent? To whom will we awaken and open the door of our lives? We never know when or how God will come." -- Unknown Author, Sacred Space

21/12/2023

Lord, help me to realize that my journey, though wrought with surprises, is as you planned.

"While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." -- Luke 2: 6-7

20/12/2023

May our Christmas spirit fill the hearts and lives of others this season, we pray.

"In Missoula, Mont., a man spent more than $1,200 to pay down the balances of six customers whose layaway orders were about to be returned to a Kmart store's inventory because of late payments. Store employees reached one beneficiary on her cellphone at Seattle Children's Hospital, where her son was being treated for an undisclosed illness. "She was yelling at the nurses, 'We're going to have Christmas after all!'" store manager Josine Murrin said." -- Margery A. Beck, AP, Anonymous donors pay off Kmart layaway accounts

19/12/2023

Lord, I am listening.

"The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid.'" -- Matthew 1:20

18/12/2023

For clarity this Christmas, for all of us, I pray.

"It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.' So begins The Tale of Two Cities, Dickens great novel. If this were the best of times, would I know it? We are in the midst of the most family-oriented holidays, and I think families have a 'golden age,' a time when everyone is at the right age to appreciate the holidays and enjoy each other. I do not think that I was ever aware when Christmas was for me at its best. Is your family at such a 'golden age?' I hope you are aware of that wonderful fact." -- Reverend James O'Leary, I Think I Am Happier Than I Think I Am
