Meet Kimura who is one of the Guest Attendants at Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf always give me a warm aloha. Wes is also a very active member of the Waikoloa Lions Club … an organization I really admire. He gives me updates on their events

Lot of friends who are very active … This is a nod to Wes and all of them who are no doubt already working hard on the very fun Annual Christmas Party they create for the keki in Waikoloa Village in December. Fun group. They do a lot for our Waikoloa Village community.

I saw Jim Thorpe who played on the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions on Golf Channel the other day talking about his career and his Jim Thorpe Invitational where 160-plus golfers, all minorities from the ages of 8 to 46 played in the tournament. It’s never been done before.”
I immediately went looking for some interviews I have done with Jim who as a Afro American professional golfer continues to pave the way for others like Charlie Sifford and Lee Elder did for players like Jim Thorpe. Found this one from 2015 at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai
It was wonderful to see Jim so enthusiastic about how he is giving back. I got to know Jim a bit when he played in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and we would do fun interviews. On this day in 2015 he was at the Mitsubishi however not playing. I had recently seen the documentary "Uneven Fairways" about Afro-American golfers who paved the way for the Jim Thorpes to play on the PGA TOUR like Jim Thorpe throughout his career was paving the way for others. We had a thoughtful conversation. I hope you will listen.
Dave Marr III who was with Golf Channel at the time and is well known and respected for his knowledge of the game joined us. Dave learned as a keiki when his father Dave Marr played on the PGA TOUR and was a respected broadcaster as well.
I feel so grateful for how many people I have been able to be around and have interviewed and shared aloha from having been around sports and the game of golf.
After my talk story with Jim ... I share my thoughts about what I want to do, what I am doing etc ... It's 2015 when I did this radio show that was also streaming and I remember I loved that the drop down box on the ESPNHawaii web site included me with Mike and Mike in the Morning and Colin Cowherd. The espn affliate here would only save 6 shows and it because of that I started a podcast as a place to store my shows.
Listening to what I talked about in this show when I share some thoughts is s pretty close to kind of thoughts I had this morning. Felt so familiar.

It was 2015 and I also talk about how I wake up every morning and listen to Clff Russell (RIP) on 1250 AM. How Cliff became host of the show when Angelo Henderson (RIP) who I had listened to every day passed. I think I also listened to Mildred Gadis on 1250.
I talk about Slow Roll ... City Bird, Run Detroit and many other places that I was becoming acquainted with 8-10 years ago.
I talk about how we did good things back in our day in Detroit and how many are doing good things when I did this show 8 years ago.
Also talk about people doing good things here on the Big Island of Hawaii ... and it all reminds me that at the heart of so much of what I feel is what a difference we can make when we say nice things ... about the things that deserve our saying nice things.

I hope you listen to my conversation with Jim Thorpe and rest of my talk story sharing my feelings about lot of topics. Aloha.

The University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans Golf team were host to handful of teams for the Dennis Rose Division II Invitational. The women's teams played at Hapuna Golf Course at Mauna Kea Resort and the men played at Waikoloa Beach Resort Golf who are one of the sponsors and host every year.

I met some of the team members and parents and the coach Denise Larson of the Westminister College in salt Lake City and enjoy following them over the weekend.

Jim DeMello is the coach of the Women's Vulcan and along with Jay Taise and his team at Hapuna Golf Course put together a nice tournament atmosphere for all the women's teams on the Big Island for the Dennis Rose Invitational. Jim talks about the weeks events and his many years with the University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans.

Catching up posting some interviews from the Dennis Rose Invitational Division II Women's Golf at Hapuna Golf Course at Mauna Kea Resort.

I met Caroline Wales when she played in the Dennis Rose Invitational for Division II players at Hapuna Golf Course, Mauna Kea Resort. She runs along side her push/pull remote golf bag cart when she plays.... interesting how it all evolved for her to add running to her on course routine.

It was the afternoon of the final round at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and I had a chance to talk story with Miller Brady, President PGA TOUR Champions. Lot of people were gathered around the wonderful stadium like design of area around the 18th green as final groups were coming down the 18th hole.
The Halau Manaola were getting ready to do their hula presentation on the 18th green which is always a highlight of the trophy presentation and closing ceremonies to a very special week on the Big Island of Hawaii for so many reasons.
As it is every year the nice crowd of people were sharing and feeling the grateful spirit of being where we were at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. So many people from so many different backgrounds and way of life brought together to create, produce, a week of wonderful week wrapped around the game of golf.

Meet Joe Terry, PGA TOUR Champions Senior Rules Official. You may have seen Joe making rule decisions at tournaments broadcast on the Golf Channel. Last Saturday, I was able to talk story as we say here in Hawaii with Joe Terry at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai where Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai where the season opening Champions Tour event is taking place and Joe was setting up the golf course .... and all that behind the scenes production that goes on. Kelly Fliear Tournament Manager, Joe, my self and so many who have been involved for every event .... this is year 27. What we have all learned and been able to observe and weave our way of being involved into the MEC has created many friendships and thoughtful working relationships. Each year I become more grateful that I know people like Joe ... and can share a bit about their stories and their journey in life.
I stopped Joe as he was doing something and said just a couple of minutes of your time. Joe was kind enough to share for a while longer some dis n dat about his profession you may not know and about setting up a golf course for 42 of the best players on the Champions Tour.
II also took the time to ask him about is good friendship with Al Kaline, (RIP) Detroit Tiger's Baseball Hall of Famer. They played a lot of golf together in Lakeland at Tiger's Training Camp. Hope you watch and hear the nice things Joe has to say about his mentor Al Kaline and learn some golf trivia through his stories.
Colleen Robar bless her heart had me sitting next to Al Kaline at Detroit Homecoming in 2017 when it was at the "train station" before became Ford Central Train Station. We shared a lot of stories and he got a kick out of a picture I showed him of me and Joe Terry and Joe holding up a "say nice things about Detroit" sticker.

Like to suggest if not already a member of Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History you become a member. It’s very reasonable.

I remember so well helping to raise funds for Charles H Wright’s vision of a Museum of African-American History.

What a gift he never gave up …

Happy Birthday to Ruby Bridges! At just six years old, she advanced the civil rights movement and became the first African American student to integrate into an elementary school in the south.

I have done so much documenting over the years and ran a regular show on our local public access Nā Leo TV. Many of them are still in SVHS format from pre digital and have not made it to my You Tube. Been teaching myself from way back and the learning curve gets much more steep.

I have taken the time to convert some video from back in the 70'-80's from Emily Detroit Run days and Emily's Across the Street. Some of those are up here. Interesting that most popular has been some video with Venus Williams when she was here on the Big Island to play Fed Cup.

I have been remiss in promoting my you tube. Started it out as a place to store video ... now I want to share what I have stored more. This is a start.

Yesterday I caught up with Kelly Fliear, Tournament Manager for the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii Jan. 20-22. We were at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai home of the Mitsubishi where Kelly and his team are setting up for the event in few weeks. We talked about the Aloha Swing ... Sentry Tournament of Champions on Maui followed by the Sony Open on Oahu and the Tour Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship here on the Big Island of Hawaii being the 3rd of 3 PGA TOUR events in Hawaii during Jan. Hope you will listen and hear how these PGA TOUR events are so important to our respective communities.

This is the 26th year fjor this PGA TOUR Champions season opening event at Hualalai making it the longest running event at same venue. What an impact the monies raised has meant for our Big Island Community. Also the opportunities for all of us to get involved and be part of a PGA TOUR event. So much to learn, ways to contribute and ways to bring a community together. For all these reasons I am a huge supporter of the PGA TOUR Mortgage Classic in my hometown Detroit.

The PGA TOUR Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai here on the Big Island of Hawaii. will have spectators this year. The event is Thursday-Saturday Jan. 20-22. I just renewed my membership to Detroit Historical Society. I thought about how much I have enjoyed visits in person and virtually to Detroit Historical Museum. And as I was putting together a new podcast show I ran across this podcast of a show I taped from the Detroit Historical Museum for my Emily T Gail Show I had on ESPN Hawaii in 2016. I was at the Detroit Historical Museum looking at a exhibit that was so interesting.

I met Wendy Executive Director of the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan and Gail Senior Staff Assoc with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit who were responsible for the exhibit titled "Chasing Dreams Baseball and Becoming American".

So on the spot we taped this interview. Thanks for listening...

It's Dec. 2021. I just listened to this podcast I had made from a cassette recording I had made in 2001. We were hanging out at my brother Max's in Malibu. Max was playing piano and singing one of his original songs and his twin sister Mary was sitting on the piano bench with him.

I would often record when Max was working on his songs and I always appreciated that he wanted me to hear his songs. This was special with Mary joining him. Mary has a beautiful voice and II always loved listening to her play moonlight sonata. I loved this as well.

When I made this podcast in 2019 had only learned to turn a cassette tape to digital and then to a podcast. I did not know how to bring up the volume etc. on the original recording with editing software. I listened yesterday I had some satisfaction in being able to tell myself if I wanted to take the time I could fix the volume fluctuation on this.

I am not going to do that right now however I am going to keep share as I learn how .... I like sharing the stories. And I love hearing and seeing others stories.

I have always been a big fan of my brother Max's poems and song writing and piano playing ... as I have been of Max's twin Mary and my twin sister Edee creativity as musicians. Over the years if they were playing music I was taping if I could.... As I'm curating of what I have documented over the ye...

I am getting into some of my past Emily T Gail Show radio shows that were also streaming from when I had my show on espnhawaii. I loved it .... I was in the drop down menu with Mike & Mike and Colin Cowherd. However they would only save six of my shows at a time so in 2011 I tried to figure out how to save all my shows. I would download from the espnhawaii web site and learned about this thing called podcasts. For me it was like my storage locker of shows. So I stored by shows under the name Emily T Gail Talk Story.

Here is a show from 2013 when my older brother Maxwell Gail Jr talked about being a part of the just released Jackie Robinson movie “42.” He played Burt Shotton, Jackie Robinson's major league manager with the Brooklyn Dodgers. I always enjoy talking with Max. We both enjoyed researching and learning about Jackie Robinson and the Negro Leagues. I have since learned a lot from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and from Gary Gillette Historic Hamtramck Stadium and so many others who have given such wonderful presentations at the Black Historic Sites Committee of the Detroit Historical Society at the Detroit Historical Museum.

Also in this show is a conversation with my long time friend Jack Berry, who was long time golf writer for Detroit News, recipient of the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism and member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame has covered 43 Masters and shares some wonderful stories about the Masters and many milestone sporting events. I always enjoy talking with Jack. In many ways he has been a mentor. Loved that he used to run in the Emily Detroit Runs. I grew up as a junior golfer and tried for the LPGA ... going to th PGA Tour Buick Open in Flint and being exposed to professional golf was so inspiring as a junior golfer. I love how the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit is supporting the efforts of a number of junior golf programs.

Going to tag Max Gail which is wonderful page a friend of Max has created. Walsh has found so many interesting clips of Max's acting and music and she and Max have sure appreciated how people have responded. I love the page. I hope you will visit. Sue has inspired me to not give up on learning how to curate better my past work. I think I've done some good interviews Most of all it's how I was able over the years to keep being creating a opportunity where I could create shows and learn how to do the technology. I am stumped every day .... however never give up.

I've been listening to some of my interviews from over the years and have decide to share them. I think they are interesting and sure has been interesting for me to create a platform where I can talk about a whole lot of subjects. This is a interview I did in 2013 with Bob McElwee ....he was the head NFL referee for several Super Bowls. I met Bob and his wife Betty at Mauna Lani Resort where the spent many years during the winter. they were such a pleasure to be around. Sure love the game of golf and being able to play at Mauna Lani. Bob talks about his journey as high school referee with goal to get to NFL. In those days they had other jobs during the week. Pretty interesting to hear Bob talk about the behind the scenes of being a NF referee.

Bob McElwee, who I have known for many years is one of the few NFL Referees who officiated 3 Super Bowls and the only referee to officiate a Super Bowl in 3 different decades will be a guest on the Emily T Gail Show which is available at espnhawaii.com under lineup. Bob’s final game was the Pro Bo...

Going to share some of my past shows from the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. This was special talk story with Mark Rolfing, Golf Channel and Kahu Billy Mitchell. Both have made a difference in my life with the support and encouragement they have given me over the years.

Mark Rolfing and I have another talk story for the Emily T Gail Talk Story show this past Jan at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. 26 years I've been working with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Life is busy and feeling grateful for all the opportunities I created for myself to be around the wonderful game of golf.

And for all the opportunities others like Mark Rolfing have created for me with their support over the years. In this conversation I mention to Mark, I picked up a camera and mic so I could be around the Arnold Palmers and Jack Nicklaus and others who were playing in the Mauna Lani Senior Skins. Mark said he pretty much did the same ...
