Orb in the sky, this past Tuesday night I shot a 11 hour timelapse on Mauna Kea, this was the view behind me for the last couple hours of it. I had to take this selfie on the way out at even though I was totally exhausted.

Galactic Core Comet ☄️🌌✨

Last night, (10/20) the view from the edge of a wind blown Pu'u on Mauna Kea. Mauna Loa, Hualalai, the Milky Way core and this month's exciting Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) are pictured behind this wicked looking tree skeleton.

Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) captured on 10/14 from the coastline near Lekeleke / Kuamo'o and 'end of the world' cliffs. Hawaii has had such an incredible view of this cosmic visitor! ☄️

The comet is fading away now and may be difficult to see with the naked eye but there's still a chance to photograph it in the next couple days.

"Comet Lake"

Lake Waiau, 13,025ft elevation on Mauna Kea with Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS), Venus and a small colorful meteor all reflected in the lake.

Last evening was one of the most incredible gatherings of big island photographers and adventurers who all got to enjoy and capture one of the most beautiful cosmic perspectives I've ever seen. Huge mahalos to everyone out there and on the mauna last night, the energy was incredible and the ALOHA was plentiful.

TRIFECTA - Fingernail Moon, meteor and the exciting new comet, C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS). I'm amazed after this morning's experience up on Mauna Loa. I could see the comet and tail with my eyes and the opportunity for photography is incredible with the waning moon and clear Hawaiian skies. For the next couple weeks, there's a good chance Comet A3 will continue to get brighter each day.

I have to shout out all the amazing Photographers on the island and around the world who are dedicated to capturing scenes like this. You all inspire me to do what I do and I hope I can inspire others to get up at 1:30am, grab their cameras and go!!

Kilauea's 2nd eruption in 2024 was very remote and totally unpredictable, lasting 5 days with 4 separate eruptive phases. Each phase was larger than the last covering nearly the entire Napau Crater floor from dramatic fountains and lavafalls pouring into the crater. Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture the main action, only a few humans on Earth even saw it with their own eyes.

The first image is from Na'alehu under the full supermoon when the eruption was going strong and shining bright. The second two images show Napau Crater floor on the final morning as the eruption was quickly waning in size and power. (See comments for our full behind the scenes adventure video)
