In episode 124 of The Storytelling Lab, @steven_pressfield discusses the power of mentors along one’s road to success and how each one of his (even those that were unaware of their mentorship to him) helped him finally achieve his goal.

How do you find your voice as a writer?

Last week, I had the most incredible conversation with Allison Fallon on how to find your voice in storytelling.
This is part of the process that is often overlooked in the interest of finding the right structure or formula.
But that’s a mistake.
Your voice is the ONLY thing that can separate your stories.
And Ally gave the most tactical advice I’ve ever heard on how to find it.
“Getting limbic.”
The two simplest ways to tap into your limbic system are:
1. Movement. Just go for a walk. Getting your heartrate up taps into the limbic system and soon, those subconscious thoughts become clearer in your mind.
2. Write early. Your limbic system is most active during sleep. It’s where dreams come from. So if you can write while you’re just coming out of that state, your stories will come from your most embodied Self.
