The Blue Beat record label was founded by Siggy Jackson in 1960 in association with Emil Shallit, the owner of Melodisc, of which Blue Beat was a subsidiary. Emil died in 1983, aged 71, and Jackson now lives in Kent where he has a roomful of tapes, early pressings that were not realesed, photos, acetates and records.
Georgie Fame was a session musician on scores of Blue Beat singles.
If you are looking for the ultimate treasure trove of Sixties Blue Beat, it's sitting in Jackson's bedroom in Kent.
So why doesn't he get it released on CD? He hasn't had a good enough offer, there aren't enough hours in the day to do it himself, and "I decided a while ago to get out of London and the whole music business, because it's full of liars and cheats. I haven't got time for it any more."

OK, the secret is out. I have a birthday coming up and I am squeezing as many events into that week as I can. On Sat 20th in the basement of No5 Old Cross with double decks and Blue Beat tunes. Please come along, please bring a friend or two. No5 has excellent tapas and drink (upstairs). Downstairs, there is this secret basement. Ideal for a small gathering. Wear a hat, and your entry to the Blue Beat Basement is guaranteed. Why a hat? Because there are no pork pies upstairs.

Green Onions - On Thursday 28 December at The Corn Exchange, Hertford. Not a Christmas Party, not a NYE party, just a festive event for fun, dancing, socialising, and generally being alive. Over the years, since it's inception at The Marquee, Green Onions has been spinning the finest in Northern, 6Ts soul, Funk, Mod Jazz, ska and a little Latin and has been enjoyed by the Mod, scooterists, alternative culture and Northern Soulies who have been able to make it. These are some of the Xmas CDs that Green Onions used to give away at their Xmas events. This year, the door tax is the same as it has always been, a fiver in (but please order via Corn Ex website of through Hertford tourist Office to get this price). Otd it's a tenner (sorry, inflation).
The tunes promise to be bigger, better and incredibly fabber than ever. All the people who come along are wonderful. Many friendships of long standing have been made at Green Onions over the years (and, unfortunately, some lost). Do come, join the passion, it's fab
