I am so done!

I cannot deal with sitting on a bus or train and having to listen to your tinny phone speakers.

I now carry this with me so I can offer it when my frustration levels reach danger point.

Just offered them to a “yout” on the bus.

To his credit he was very polite - said “No thank you, it’s alright” and turned his volume down.

This was last weeks back to school pic. I didn’t post it because there was so much to say and more I didn’t have the energy to say.

My girls are growing up and they are everything children are meant to be - exhausting, upsetting, violent, funny and joyful. I love the journey; I struggle with the journey.

And I miss the one that isn’t there so bad. Time is no healer. It makes things easier to function with but each time a day like this rolls round, it’s harder than the one before.

Life eh!

Last week I recorded my first non-fiction audiobook. It was resonant, topical, incisive and brilliant. It made me angry, happy and in awe.

Huge thanks to of Tall Stories Audiobooks whose directing/engineering collaboration is going to contribute to an amazing book. I’ll let you know what it is by launch date - 24th July

And in the middle of that I did the funnest job, a job I’d been waiting to do since I was 11 with Productions and the incredible . Gonna be a little wait before I can tell you about this one

A stream of consciousness for my daughter’s deathday

Last night nine years ago
I went to bed
Dead? Nah my daughter was living
I woke not knowing that our joy
Was about to be driven.
Into the dark

Hark the herald angels sing
I hear no song
Except the loss of the lost
Screaming through the tumultuous
Storm the darkness brings.

Nine years ago tomorrow I held a baby
dead? Nah my daughter is living
It’s just… she won’t open her eyes
It’s just… she won’t take a breath

I’ve sailed through storms and night
And my mind is a psalm
To pain and hurt
Though the sea is calm.

And I usually have fight but
Today I have no strength
To steer this vessel
I’m in a corner
Just sitting
Letting it drift
Wherever it’s bidden

So proud of who got a standing ovation after speaking at The International Labour and Birth Research Conference in Cumbria yesterday.

She shared our daughter Grace with the hundreds of delegates and her message that the birth experience matters regardless of wether the baby is living or dead and shared ways in which Health Care Professionals can make sure they are not adding to the trauma of the moment.

Recorded at the bloody brilliant with some of the best direction I've ever had by the glorious who really channeled my latent welsh language technique!!!!!!!

Also made my day to get one of Alannah's school friends an audition and as a result they made into the game as well. Nice work Gabriel Grant.

In 2014 the main menu looked like the 1st pic and the Apple podcast TV & Film charts looked like the 2nd picture.

I believe was the first podcast to become a tv show, and a tv show with incredibly high viewing figures.

We got to interview Mark Kermode and Brian Blessed among others

I’m not sure Barry and I have come down from that high yet.
