🚨 FOOD SAFETY ALERT: SALMONELLA OUTBREAK

The CDC is investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers.

As of August 19:
🌶️ 431 illnesses reported
🏥 57 hospitalizations
📍 32 states affected
🙏 0 deaths reported

Health officials say traceback data points to jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. Consumers are being advised to check for recalled jalapeños and not eat, sell, or serve affected products. (cdc.gov, cdc.gov)

Common Salmonella symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. If you think you may have eaten a recalled product, monitor for symptoms and follow the latest CDC/FDA guidance.

🚨 ILLINOIS TOLLS ARE GOING UP

Illinois drivers will soon be paying more to use the state’s tollway system.

The Illinois Tollway Board approved a new $26.5 billion infrastructure plan, and beginning January 1, 2027, passenger vehicles will pay about 45¢ more at each toll.

Commercial vehicle toll rates are also expected to increase by 30%.

The money will help fund major improvements along routes including I-90, I-88, I-355 and I-294, as well as transportation projects around O’Hare International Airport.

Tollway officials say passenger vehicle rates haven’t increased since 2012 and argue the added revenue is needed to repair aging infrastructure, improve traffic flow and modernize the system.

But for drivers already dealing with higher everyday expenses, even another 45¢ per toll can add up quickly — especially for commuters hitting several tolls each day.

And there’s another change coming: beginning in 2029, toll rates are scheduled to be adjusted every two years based on inflation.

Tyra Banks is reportedly taking legal action against Netflix over how she was portrayed in a project examining the hit reality series, while Netflix is pushing back against the claims.

But the bigger conversation might be about ANTM itself. 👀
