Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English author, humorist, and screenwriter, best known for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (HHGTTG). Originally a 1978 BBC radio comedy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy developed into a "trilogy" of five books that sold more than 15 million copies in his lifetime. It was further developed into a television series, several stage plays, comics, a video game, and a 2005 feature film. Adams's contribution to UK radio is commemorated in The Radio Academy's Hall of Fame.

Adams also wrote Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987) and The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul (1988), and co-wrote The Meaning of Liff (1983), The Deeper Meaning of Liff (1990) and Last Chance to See (1990). He co-wrote the sketch "Patient Abuse" for the final episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. A posthumous collection of his selected works, including the first publication of his final (unfinished) novel, was published as The Salmon of Doubt in 2002.

An author can become so immersed in her subject that it is impossible to see things—important things—that someone not as close to the topic will be able to see. Someone else’s perspective on the material you have written can show up holes or missing bits of information. It’s a great way to “test” your material to see how it is received and if it is understood. Two ways to do this are through beta readers or a developmental edit. Get feedback from others.

NEW BOOK ALERT!!!
Today is launch day for Becoming UNSILENCED, by Meg Applegate. In this memoir, she shares her experience as a 15-year-old who was funneled into the Troubled Teen Industry and the years of institutional abuse she suffered under the guise of "treatment”. Not one to let her past define her, today Meg is a powerhouse advocate, activist and spokesperson for survivors. She founded UNSILENCED a nonprofit that supports survivors of the Troubled Teen Industry and advocates for them. This is a great book for survivors and their parents, as well as for decision-makers and health professionals suggesting life-altering interventions for troubled teens. Available now in paperback, hardback and ebook everywhere books are sold.

Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. (October 8, 1920 – February 11, 1986) was an American science-fiction author, best known for his 1965 novel Dune and its five sequels. He also wrote short stories and worked as a newspaper journalist, photographer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and lecturer.

Dune is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the series is a classic of the science-fiction genre. The Dune saga, set in the distant future and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics, s*x, and power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and colonized many thousands of worlds.

The series has been adapted numerous times, including the feature film Dune (1984), the miniseries Frank Herbert's Dune and Children of Dune, and a motion picture trilogy currently in production, with Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) having been released.

Luckett Davidson is a leadership development coach and writer/artist who came to us with a unique vision for an interactive series of guidebooks that give college students the skillsets needed to succeed.

We worked together with Luckett for over a year to develop and produce the Stand Strong series. We managed the production of this three-volume series and our graphic designer and illustrator, Stefan Merour, did all of the shading work on the illustrations.

Stand Strong was a FINALIST in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards–Activity Books

You will need to manage a lot of moving parts and pieces during the publishing process. The job of the publisher is to keep things on track, to keep things moving from one step to the next. Don’t let your project lose momentum or get stuck. While the writing process can be grueling and time-consuming, the publishing process can move quickly and with a good deal of momentum if you keep things on track. Keeping the publisher mind-set helps you avoid drowning in the details.

Annelies Marie Frank (12 June, 1929 – February or March, 1945) was a German-born Jewish girl who kept a diary in which she documented life in hiding under N**i persecution during the German occupation of the Netherlands.

Anne Frank gained fame posthumously with the 1947 publication of The Diary of a Young Girl, in which she documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944. It is one of the world's best-known books and has been the basis for several plays and films.

In 1934, when Anne Frank was four-and-a-half, she and her family moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands, after Adolf Hi**er and the N**i Party gained control over Germany. By May 1940, the Franks were trapped in Amsterdam by the German occupation of the Netherlands. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased in July 1942, they went into hiding in concealed rooms in the building where Anne's father, Otto Frank, worked.

Following the family's arrest by the Gestapo on 4 August 1944, the Franks were transported to concentration camps. On 1 November 1944, Frank and her sister, Margot, were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (presumably of typhus) a few months later.

Otto, the only survivor of the Frank family, returned to Amsterdam after the war to find that Anne's diary had been saved by his secretaries. He decided to fulfil his daughter's greatest wish to become a writer. He published her diary in 1947. It was translated from its original Dutch version and first published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl, and has since been translated into over 70 languages.

If you plan to create a high-quality book, you will want to get help from professionals (like an editor, designer, an e-book formatter, perhaps an illustrator). Your job will be to choose competent professionals to work with, contract with them in a way that works for both of you, and communicate with them so they understand what you need. These are all roles the publisher handles.

Carol Weaver’s debut memoir, Side Effects, is a touching portrait of beauty and resilience and the power of art to heal and revitalize. Working with Dr. Weaver to publish her book was a joy. Her skill with and love of the written word comes through on every page. Her book has multiple full-color images, which required additional treatment during the production process. Her book has been available in print and ebook form since December 2016.

We will remember Carol, along with all those who loved her and mourn her passing in 2022.

Is your priority to put a book together quickly, so you can get it out in the world as soon as possible? Or is your goal to create a high-quality book you will be proud of forever? There is no right or wrong way to publish a book. But you need a clear vision of what you want to accomplish because it will determine the direction you take going forward.

William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850) was an English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads (1798).

Wordsworth's magnum opus is generally considered to be The Prelude, a semi-autobiographical poem of his early years that he revised and expanded a number of times. It was posthumously titled and published by his wife in the year of his death, before which it was generally known as "the poem to Coleridge".

Wordsworth was Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death on 23 April 1850.

If this is your first book, there will be plenty for you to learn. The good news is that all of the information you need is available and easily accessible. A good rule of thumb is: the more overall understanding you have, the better decisions you will be able to make. Publishing isn’t rocket science. Everything is learnable. So do your research. Read. Ask questions. Educate yourself.

James Mercer Langston Hughes (February 1, 1901 – May 22, 1967) was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist from Joplin, Missouri. One of the earliest innovators of the literary art form called jazz poetry, Hughes is best known as a leader of the Harlem Renaissance. He famously wrote about the period that "the Negro was in vogue", which was later paraphrased as "when Harlem was in vogue."
Growing up in a series of Midwestern towns, Hughes became a prolific writer at an early age. He moved to New York City as a young man, where he made his career. He gained notice from New York publishers, first in The Crisis magazine and then from book publishers, and became known in the creative community in Harlem. In addition to poetry, Hughes wrote plays and short stories. He also published several nonfiction works. From 1942 to 1962, as the civil rights movement gained traction, he wrote an in-depth weekly column in a leading black newspaper, The Chicago Defender.

In order to successfully self-publish, once you are finished writing, you need to take off the hat of an author and put on the hat of a publisher. Writing and publishing are both important roles, but very different skill sets are involved. As the publisher, you will be tasked with organizing the production and publishing process. You become the one who makes the decisions. You will be managing all the moving parts and pieces of the production, and you will be responsible for the marketing and promotion.

Audre Lorde (February 18, 1934 – November 17, 1992) was an American writer, professor, philosopher, intersectional feminist, poet and civil rights activist. She was a self-described "black, le***an, feminist, socialist, mother, warrior, poet" who dedicated her life and talents to confronting all forms of injustice, as she believed there could be "no hierarchy of oppressions".

As a poet, she is well known for technical mastery and emotional expression, as well as her poems that express anger and outrage at civil and social injustices she observed throughout her life. As a spoken word artist, her delivery has been called powerful, melodic, and intense by the Poetry Foundation. Her poems and prose largely deal with issues related to civil rights, feminism, le***anism, illness, disability, and the exploration of black female identity.

Toni Morrison (Feb. 18, 1931 – Aug. 5, 2019) was an American novelist. Her first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970. The critically acclaimed Song of Solomon (1977) brought her national attention and won the National Book Critics Circle Award. In 1988, Morrison won the Pulitzer Prize for Beloved (1987) and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.

Born and raised in Lorain, Ohio, Morrison graduated from Howard University in 1953 with a B.A. in English. She earned a master's degree in American Literature from Cornell University in 1955. Morrison became the first black female editor in fiction at Random House in New York City in the late 1960s. Her novel Beloved was made into a film in 1998. Morrison's works are praised for addressing the harsh consequences of racism in the United States and the Black American experience.

The National Endowment for the Humanities selected Morrison for the Jefferson Lecture, the U.S. federal government's highest honor for achievement in the humanities, in 1996. She was honored with the National Book Foundation's Medal of Distinguished Contribution to American Letters the same year. President Barack Obama presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on May 29, 2012. She received the PEN/Saul Bellow Award for Achievement in American Fiction in 2016. Morrison was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2020.

It was an honor to support Brenda Harrington in publishing her debut non-fiction, in which she presents a forthright accounting of the inequities and discrimination that Black people experience in the workplace and what steps they can take to navigate deeply embedded and systemic issues.

Brenda came to us with a very polished manuscript along with an illustration that a colleague had created for her book cover. We managed the production and launch of her bestseller—a book every white person in corporate America would do good to read.
