A.V. Rockwell's () 🎥 A Thousand and One

We champion stories of motherhood, of perseverance and a knowing that you are deserving of what you want despite the odds. This film, Rockwell's feature debut, touches on these very themes in a heart-warming and heart-wrenching tale of Inez and young Terry.

Teyana Taylor's () breakout starring role has won audiences over, in her moving portrayal of a woman starting over, a protective mother, with desires of love and security that isn't afforded to women like her from where she's from.

The cast includes the captivating Will Catlett (Lucky), Aaron Kingsley Adetola (Terry - also played by Aven Courtney and Josiah Cross)...and we have to mention the lovely Alicia Pilgrim () as Terry's crush, a 17-year-old Simone, (our leading lady in FWM's Skettel - by ).

This film is up for (7) NAACP Awards, which airs on March 16th. We hope to see this team of artists take home quite a few wins that evening! 🙌🏾✨

✨A powerful depiction of sisterhood 🙌🏾

The new, musical theatric release of The Color Purple echoed connection, hope and discovery in this reimagined film by Blitz Bazawule (Director).

As put by Taraji P. Henson (who dazzles as Shug Avery) "We don't wallow in the muck...We laugh, we sing, we go to church, we dance, we celebrate, we fight for joy...". The 2023 version, visually, is the example of holding steadfast to joy, even through the muck.

The chemistry between our new Celie (Fantasia Barrino) and Shug was palpable, using surrealism to depict Ms. Celie's daydreams of love, desire and freedom. Not to mention the sisterhood felt when Barrino, Henson, Danielle Brooks (Sofia) and H.E.R. (Squeak) joined together in later scenes at "Celie's Fancy Pants" storefront. 👯‍♀️

From the dance numbers and original songs, to the classic quotables we know and love - we celebrate this film for all of the above and are proud of the dominance the film showed on its Christmas opening day! 🎥👏🏾 The love was felt and filling! 💜

Happy Women's History Month✨

Black History Month may have formerly ended, but we celebrate us, always! There are films/filmmakers that have been a part of a lot of award-winning conversation and forward movement in the industry. Let's celebrate this art and the effort that goes into creating films centering Black people. 🙌🏾

Kicking things off with Ava DuVernay (), and the biographical drama "Origin". This film is based on Isabel Wilkerson's (played by the emotive muse Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, ) journey of writing her book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

As indie filmmakers, we understand the difficulty in finding funding, especially on stories that center us. While it was surprising to learn someone with Ms. DuVernay's catalog struggled for support on such a moving film, knowing she took an independent route finding a source of investment from the philanthropic world is a nod to the efforts and strides of the indie filmmaker community. The art that needs to be shared, will eventually find its legs! 🎥👏🏾

While this documentary is set to be published by The New Yorker Documentary 👏🏾 the Impact Campaign will bring the film directly in front of families, community members, advocates, scholars and social workers.

The Impact Campaign was launched in Durham, North Carolina, and with support, this team of filmmakers can continue to screen the film, educate and advocate for families and people impacted by family policing systems. She is the creator and host of the live show School4Legends. Analisa Velez is also a singer/songwriter/emcee; her music can be found on all music platforms. Let’s change the narrative...

The idea for Juju: The Web Series stemmed from the creator’s love for the supernatural realm. Growing up in the 90’s, director, writer, & producer, Moon Ferguson, has always been fascinated with shows such as Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and movies such as The Craft and Teen Witch. However, something was missing. She began to notice that the characters of her favorite stories did not look like her. Did Black witches not exist? Were Black werewolves not exciting? Or what about African vampires intertwined with African history?

Juju is the answer. It’s time to see Black and Brown faces in the fantasy genre, telling their own stories. Juju does a great job of executing magical realism while including the stories of mythical creatures. This is a project that will knock you off your feet... figuratively. Help us spread the word so that we can open up the platform for those of marginalized groups who wish to see diversity in the world of fantasy.
