If you're into shared universe storytelling and a fan of Transformers/GI-Joe then read the Energon Universe books. Starting with Void Rivals, the story spans across four current titles. Void Rivals itself is a great original science fiction comic and deserves recognition outside of being a tie-in. At first the Energon Universe was a surprise and in the first issue of Void Rivals the first connection is made, but that does not take away from Kirkman's story. The other titles include an ongoing Transformers book and two five-issue mini's featuring Duke and Cobra Commander from GI-Joe. All of this requires no previous reading nor knowledge of the characters but knowing is also half the battle (lol) as nostalgia is planted here and there if you are an old-school fan. If they were to start a connected cinematic universe I would hope that they would look to this epic as a blueprint.

I'm behind on my viewing of For All Mankind and I just wrapped season one. I've been meaning to watching this show because I'm a fan of Ronald D. Moore from his work on Star Trek TNG/DS9 and the stellar Battlestar Galactica reboot. I love alternate history stories and this one doesn't disappoint. This show is definitely a drama so don't go into it expecting a science fiction romp. For All Mankind is a character driven story. It explores human relationships and captures the story's eras well throughout its ten episodes. The tweaks made to history are interesting but pay attention because some are not as apparent as others. The show also does a good job by not dragging out every single situation and it time jumps when appropriate, while dealing out some great suspense and many heartfelt moments. I have always loved space exploration and though For All Mankind is a fictionalized story it remains believable.
Season One - 8.5/10 ~CW

If you listen to my podcast Towelite Talk you already know how much I've talked about Godzilla Minus One. I had the opportunity to see it again during the Minus Color limited release. Not only did I love this movie even more the second time, but to watch it in black and white was a different experience. Since it is set during post WWII the decolorized version actually made the movie seem more authentic to the era. The original Godzilla movie is in B&W and it is great to get one in this format in 2024, which marks the 70th anniversary of the original. This film was my top movie of 2023 and seeing it again reminded me why. This movie is more about PTSD and human relationships than it is about a monster. It moved me the first time I watched it and it moved me again during this viewing. Put aside your bias about these kinds of movies and give Godzilla Minus One a shot.

There are films that I can wait to watch at home, especially ones that run over three hours long. Doing so gave me the opportunity to watch it in two sittings. This however doesn't take away from how good it is. Another great film by Scorsese and an excellent ensemble. From the sets to the costumes, you can see the hard work and research that went into bringing this movie to life. I have always been a big fan of DiCaprio and really enjoyed his portrayal of the simple, and ingenuous, Ernest Burkhart. De Niro also brings his usual A-game and plays the manipulative villain very well. Most of all praise to Lily Gladstone who plays the stoic Mollie Burkhart. Throughout the film her portrayal shines but it is in her last scene where she truly delivers. Another eye-opening story of the travesties and wrong doings that blemishe the history of the USA. Very important for the time we live in now as people work hard to try and erase certain parts of our country's past.

Loved the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, or as my wife and I called it, Monster Hunter. I have enjoyed Legendary's Monsterverse films and this show adds immensely to it. The cast is great and the show's human element is well told throughout the narrative. For me, the legacy of the Randa family outshines the legacy of Monarch and the monsters. The use of Kurt and Wyatt Russell as the same character worked really well and both brought their A-game to the shared role. Having the show take place in different eras was interesting as it helped to build a great backstory to what has been established in the films. Looking forward to season two and also the upcoming Godzilla X Kong movie.
