This past April #teamfloristsreview attended the 25th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World and enjoyed #epcotinthespring! Did you know it takes 30 million blooms to blanket the park throughout the festival, which runs 90 colorful days and requires two complete crop rotations to keep floral displays fresh and seasonal? At least 25 different plants, grasses and mosses of various colors, including pink and red begonias, dusty miller, palm fiber, palm seeds, ficus and lichen, are used to create and define facial and other features of festival character topiarys. The topiary team uses about 200 one-pound boxes of hairpins to attach plants and flowers to the topiaries. Want to push yourself out of the box this year in a welcoming environment? Enter the Designer of the Year Event at the Team Flower Conference. In this competition-style event designers can share and grow their design skills. There is no age limit, no experience level requirements and no certification requirements. This event is open to everyone who wants to pursue excellence and experience refinement in their work. Participants will submit a portfolio, recorded interview, written design plan and a fresh floral design. A diverse panel of judges Hallwood Floral Studio , Everbloom Designs , Bluffton General Store, Stone House Creative​ weigh in to determine the 2018 Designer of the Year and awards in four additional categories — Mastery in Color, Mastery in Design Principles, Rising Star and Original Design. Designs will be exhibited and event attendees will weigh in on the People’s Choice award.
