Anybody who likes live music of any type should be agog with anticipation of what lies ahead in Brisbane this week.
Having been cancelled due to COVID for the last two years, the return of Big Sound is a massive boon for the Australian music industry. In addition to myriad conference sessions, keynote addresses and industry seminars, Big Sound 2022 promises to deliver three massive nights of live music from more than 180 artists across 21 different venues in Fortitude Valley. The likes of Sydney and Melbourne like to make bold claims about their status as superior live music locations, but where else but The Valley can serve up more than 20 live music venues within a block or two of each other.
Big Sound 2022 gets underway on Tuesday (September 6), and continues through Wednesday and Thursday, with conference events during the day before live music showcases get underway from 8.00pm each night. In addition to the plethora of showcase performances to choose from each night, there will be numerous other events served up as well, including the After Midnight sessions, comprising late-night mystery performances and industry parties at multiple locations.
Host venues in 2022 include The Brightside, The Zoo, O'Skulligan's. Ric's Backyard, Black Bear Lodge, Tomcat, The Sound Garden, The Warehouse, Summa House, Woolly Mammoth, Prince Consort Hotel, BLVD, King Lear's Throne, Blute's Bar, La La Land, EC Venue, The Outpost, Stranded, Prohibition, Press Club and Ivory Tusk, with over 100 performances each night. While Big Sound is always a fantastic (if physically demanding) experience that serves up showcase performances from artists across all genres and musical styles, there are always additional events throughout the week that provide additional performance opportunities for artists who may or may not be featuring at the festival. This is the case once again in 20
