Less Than Expected are taking a stand against PAY TO PLAY! Unite and give them some support!

We've pulled out of the show on January 29th at Avenue Tap House Lakewood along with a couple other bands in solidarity against "Pay to Play".

This is kind of a long post, and we apologize but wanted 100% transparency for all of our friends, fellow musicians, and supporters

When we agreed to play this show, we made it abundantly clear we did not do "Pay to Play" and the promoter of this show assured us that was not the case. As things progressed, we started to have reservations and began talking to our friends in the other bands who also expressed concerns. The promoter, Bryan Michael Krohn (who from this point forward will be referred to as Mr. Krohn, to avoid confusion with cooler Bryan's in our scene) had already changed the venue and date a couple of times, and then let everyone know that tickets for this event would be $20 a ticket and that payout was based on how many tickets were sold. We were told that any tickets that weren’t sold, we’d have to cover.

A direct quote from him was -
"0-49 Tickets sold $3 per ticket
50-99 Tickets sold $5 per ticket
100+ Tickets sold $7 per ticket"

This is a scam tactic by "promoters" (which we use in the loosest sense) to put all the work on the bands. They sit back and collect money and do no actual promoting outside of a post on social media and event page here and there. No street teams, no leg work, no posters hung, no flyers handed out.

This is NOT an okay practice, and we refuse to be privy to it.

To add insult to injury, Martin as he always does, made a flyer for this show to help promote. This is just a thing that he does for every show we play on, and so this had no bearing on the show, venue, or "promoter", however, after he showed his flyer to Mr. Krohn. Mr. Krohn incessantly asked him to make more flyers and even a tee shirt for his future shows. When Martin told him a price for that type of work, Mr. Krohn tried to tell him that "I think $20 is a pretty number". Martin responded with "Yeah, pretty low..." This was something that didn't sit well with us, and further helped us to come to our decision to pull out of the show.

We don't like canceling any show, for almost any reason. So, Martin made one last attempt to make this work and voiced his concern about the ticket prices in the group chat that all the bands were added to by Mr. Krohn for the show, and some of the other bands voiced their support that it was not a feasible plan and that we felt that the prices should be lowered. Mr. Krohn got upset and now we're here. We wanted to make this show work in Lakewood, but we cannot be part of this type of practice. It's toxic for our scene and toxic for the local music community as a whole. We've gotten with a couple other bands who were originally booked for this event who have backed out with us, and are working on setting up a show that same evening in the area for a reasonable $10 per ticket, and of course all the bands will be "PAID TO PLAY!"

Thank you,
Less Than Expected

Our little boy has grown so much! Check out Alex Leniz formerly of The Damnsels, now the frontman of Sick Talk in this awesome interview for Cryptknotic!

He doesn’t mention us, but we’ll let that slide because we love his dumb face!

We get into musical roots, the sharp swerve from punk to blues cover songs, and even end up discussing The Horribles. One of the most fun interviews we've ha...

Cleveland melodic punk rock outfit Low Morale ’s album “Making You Better Feeling” is streaming everywhere and features 8 tracks of melodic, emo-tinged punk rock that’s as catchy as it is cathartic.

Vocalist Justin Vaughn and guitarist Steve Sherman formerly shared bills with acts like The Falcon, Iron Chic, Off With Their Heads, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, War On Women, and Direct Hit with their former project, Blacklister, eventually being approached by Man Overboard’s Nik Bruzzese, interested in producing the band.

In late 2019 they decided it was time for a fresh start. Justin and Steve wrote and recorded their upcoming album themselves as Low Morale, then recruited a rhythm section in drummer Kyle Rogers and bassist Brandon Sopiecha.

With lines like “Sometimes it feels like I’m not even here like I’m half ghost and half real or a masterpiece unframed on the floor”, the anthemic yet dark outfit has been compared to seminal melodic punk rock/emo hybrids like Alkaline Trio, Saves the Day and Jawbreaker. Bridging the gaps between west coast skate punk, east coast emo, and rust belt gruff, they bring both nostalgia and something new to the table.

Debt Neglector's new single "Cult Cult Cult" via Smartpunk Records dropped today!

The track proves that the band refuses to turn a blind eye and sip the "corporate Kool-Aid." As the title suggests, the band’s pursuit on “Cult Cult Cult” is to wake up the masses from the blind, cult-like following towards corporate greed.

“Cult Cult Cult is about the segment of people in our country that have been tricked into thinking unchecked Capitalism is basically the greatest thing ever. They’ve been fooled into believing that immigrants and social programs are the reason they’re broke, instead of blaming the actual root of their problems which is the unchecked greed of the extremely wealthy and mega corporations. They look up to guys like Jeff Bezos and believe they’ve actually EARNED their money. When in reality the only way anyone can get that rich is through exploiting the labor of thousands of people and paying to bend the rules in your favor.” - Debt Neglector

This is the second single release from their upcoming full length album "Dirty Water," available on November 5th.
