FLOODED SIOGI CULVERT BREAKS OFF ROAD LINK TO POM.
(Monday March 11, 2024)
The People of Badiroho, Kerea 1, Wame & Beto villages almost missed a spot at Gordon's market, if not for the quick response from local PMV operator's.
ANR PMV from Nebilyer (Hagen) couldn't cross over the Siogi Creek due to the flood after Sunday nights rain. The driver, Tebe and Crew called the owner of the PMV, Anthon Ruimb Namba to send it's other PMV to their rescue.
The passengers were eager to travel into POM with their garden produce to sell. Luckily for them, the other PMV truck owned by the same operator came to the other side of the creek where the cargo was quickly offloaded to the waiting vehicle.
Farmer and Parent Leslie from Beto village was thankful to the PMVs for their swift response. He said he was looking forward to this days sale to pay up his children's outstanding school fees. It was a relief for him when his garden produce was finally brought into Port Moresby and sold out.
The Vanapa River which flows out from the Udaba Valleys in Woitape LLG, Goilala District have the potential to wash away major structures, animals and even human beings.
It is advisable to be at the higher grounds when the river is flooding.
