Finally, the last lesson took me right up until this past year to learn. I felt like I always had to be the hardest working person in the room at all times because I was at the top and that was what is expected of leaders. But after the pandemic, and a really intense year of growth, I realized that attitude would be a quick recipe for burnout, not to mention a horrible example for my team. So now I take vacations, you won’t find me reliably online after working hours, and I try to avoid answering emails on the weekend. I know now that if I don’t take care of myself, I can’t take care of my team or of my company. And as a new mom, I am even more in tune with the importance of setting a time when the computer gets shut off.

We are thrilled to announce that our podcast, "Después de Ayotzinapa," has been named a finalist in the prestigious Third Coast/RHDF Competition (). 🙌🏽

☑️ This achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of our dedicated team, who worked passionately to bring this significant story to light.

👉🏼 Our success in the competition wouldn't have been possible without the invaluable collaboration of Reveal () / The Center for Investigative Reporting and the National Security Archive at George Washington University.

They provided the original reporting and published three hours of outstanding radio content that formed the foundation of our exploration in Spanish into the complex narrative of the 43 missing students in Mexico in 2014.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners and the entire team for their commitment to this project. Through additional interviews and on-the-ground reporting, we expanded the content from three hours of radio in English to a comprehensive six-episode series in Spanish.

🤝 Our collaboration with Animal Politico () in Mexico has also played a vital role in extending our reach and impact. Their distribution efforts have allowed us to connect with a broader audience and share this powerful investigation with even more listeners.

El lunes 19 de junio tendremos un episodio especial sobre la historia del Juneteenth, con una invitada especial: Opal Lee.

¿Por qué su historia es muy importante? Aquí te presentamos tres razones.

Juneteenth conmemora el final de la exclavitud en los Estados Unidos, tras la Guerra Civil.

Desde 2021 es un día festivo oficial.

En 2016, Opal Lee decidió caminar desde su casa en Texas hasta Washington, D.C. para ayudar a que Juneteenth se convirtirera en una celebración nacional. Ella tenía 89 años.

Viajó por diferentes estados y caminó 2.5 millas, simbilizando los dos años y medio que tomó a las personas esclavizadas en Texas saber que realmente eran libres. A donde sea que Opal iba preguntaba a las personas si querían firmar una peticion para volver Juneteenth una celebración nacional oficial.

✨ Su campaña llamó la atención de la Casa Blanca.

Un día de 2021, gracias a la increíble determinación de Opal, el presidente Joe Biden firmó un proyecto de ley que hace que el 19 de junio sea una celebración nacional.

Por estas razones, estamos muy orgullosos de compartir la historia de Opal Lee en Duolingo relatos en inglés.
