RESIDENTS OF WOODBRIDGE!

Have you seen the Active Travel Woodbridge proposals? If so, what are your views? We have recently heard local residents views on the matter (the closing of Hasketon Road/A12 junction, for one, which is feared will bring complete traffic chaos to the town particularly around Farlingaye School drop off and pick up times). Do let us know your views at [email protected]

Better still, let Suffolk County Council know your views before it's too late. The link to their Public Consultation is below ...

A fabulous evening was had by all at the Riverside Cinema in Woodbridge last night with the superb Jarvis Cocker dazzling us all with chat, laughter, memories and memorabilia ... it had it all! Our competition winners greatly enjoyed their evening and everyone left with a warm glow - especially us after Jarvis took a copy of the magazine to read on the train home! What a lovely down-to-earth guy and huge respect as he didn't let anyone down despite suffering two painful cracked ribs. Many thanks to Neil McGlone for organising this highlight of the year. To read all about Neil and his extraordinary career, find the latest issue in East of England Co-op shops now or visit, www.livinginsuffolk.com

SEA LINK - HAVE YOU HEARD?

As part of a community consultation, East Suffolk Council has been invited to comment on the Sea Link project.

Sea Link is a proposed electricity infrastructure project which includes the construction of a converter station near Saxmundham, a substation near Friston and underground cabling running between them and out to sea, near Aldeburgh.

The project, led by National Grid, is of national significance and the acceptability of the proposals will be decided by the Secretary of State.

The Council has previously expressed its concern over a number of matters related to the Sea Link project, including the lack of clarity over the consideration of alternative proposals, the lack of national co-ordination regarding energy infrastructure and the sensitivity and value of the East Suffolk environment.

Cllr Tom Daly, East Suffolk’s cabinet member for Energy and Climate Change, said: “Before we begin to look at the detail of cable routes, proposed infrastructure, etc, the major issues of coordination and strategy are outstanding.

“Although being promoted as ‘a standalone project’, there is clear synergy with all other projects seeking cable routes, converter stations and Friston connections. It follows that there is significant benefit in looking at these projects and the other NSIPs (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects) together.

“In addition to the cumulative impacts as a result of the delivery of multiple NSIPs within East Suffolk, we are concerned about the consenting process, which includes the pre-application phase, and the huge burden this imposes on the local communities.

“We would like to see greater coordination between the promotors in relation to this matter, especially considering LionLink, Sea Link and Nautilus are all being promoted under the umbrella of the National Grid Group.”

The consultation, which opened on 24 October, is the first statutory consultation on the proposal and at least one other will follow.

Consultation documents are available to view at www.nationalgrid.com/sealink, while hard copies are available at Saxmundham Library, Leiston Library, Aldeburgh Library, Snape Village Hall and Friston Village Hall.

National Grid is also holding in-person consultation events and webinars to enable residents to learn more about the proposals:

Northgate Reunion! Class of 1976-83

Great news! This long-awaited reunion has been rescheduled.
If you attended Northgate School from 1976 to 1981 or were a part of the sixth form year group who left in 1983, then mark your calendars! This reunion, which faced two unfortunate postponements due to the pandemic, is finally set to take place at the Curve Bar in Ipswich at 8pm on 7th October.
Trish Tomlin (nee Batten), a key member of the Reunion Team, tells us: “After over two years of delays, our 40 year reunion is upon us. This may be our last big gathering, so we are eager to see every familiar face. It's going to be a one-night-only time machine, offering a chance to reminisce, reconnect and revel in the memories."
If you know of a friend or relative who left Northgate in either 1981 or the sixth form in 1983, please send them this link to get tickets: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/northgategrammar/912444
A special request: The team are seeking vintage photos from their school days. If you possess any snapshots from that time, please photograph them with your phone and email them to us. These images will be showcased on the reunion evening, allowing everyone a visual trip down memory lane.

Email: [email protected]

Or find them on Facebook 76-83 Reunion

This week Woodbridge lost an extraordinary woman who campaigned tirelessly for the town and indeed the county. She was an inspiration to us all - a trailblazer, feminist, a much-needed voice for the underdog - and she will be hugely missed. The suffragette flag was raised and then flown at half -mast in Whisstocks in memory of Caroline Page, who passed away last Wednesday. Friends and family walked along the riverside where there was a scattering of petals representing the suffragette colours of purple, white and green, in front of the bandstand along River Wall, while friends took a dip in the Deben, the river she so dearly loved and fought to protect.
RIP County Cllr Caroline Page 💜🤍💚

Last night we were very lucky to see a wonderful performance of The Children starring three incredible powerhouse actors' - Imogen Stubbs, Gillian Bevan and Michael Higgs at the Theatre Royal, Bury St. Edmunds and running until Saturday 25th March. It's no surprise that Lucy Kirkwood’s post-apocalyptic drama was hailed by The Guardian as one of the top three plays in their ‘Best
Theatre Shows of the 21st Century’.
This timely and thought-provoking piece follows married couple - retired nuclear scientists played by Gillian Bevan and Michael Higgs - whose isolated life together by the sea is disrupted when an old friend, played by Imogen Stubbs, turns up with a frightening request ...
Darkly funny with twists and turns, we promise you will not be disappointed. The performances are nothing short of electrifying!
Tickets available from £10.80 - £29 at: www.theatreroyal.org/shows/thechildren/
