Last summer, our eldest son completed his Skipper RYA Day qualification (which you can complete at the age of 16) and our plan this year was for him to move on to the next step: his skipper RYA Coastal. For this you need to study a little, but before the holidays he had so many other stresses – his A-levels in mathematics, which he took a year earlier, mock exams for his other A-levels, which would determine his predictions for academic applications, his theory of driving tests, work experience and more, that we decided to treat it best as a vacation. We will be able to use this year as experienced builders without pressure-after all, there would always be future opportunities to get RYA to recognize qualifications.
