GUC is ecstatic to announce that Dominguez High’s very own Catherine Borek has been awarded the prestigious Carlston Outstanding Teachers of America Award by “Above & Beyond Teaching” charity.

GUC Founder/CEO & Former NBA player Bobby Jones, submitted a nomination letter, recalling her pivotal role as his 9th-grade English teacher at . Ms. Borek’s commitment to teaching spans 28 years, influencing the lives of nearly 6,000 students in Compton. The award comes w/ a $10,000 prize & ceremony where former students reveal their gratitude and present the award. =================================================

Are you an aspiring artist looking for a platform to showcase your skills? Or maybe you just want to explore your artistic side and try something new? Whatever the case, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

In partnership w/ we’re happy to announce the 1st annual, “Growing Up Compton: Art Contest”

CONTEST RULES

· Ages 10-18
· Compton themed pieces only
· Physical pieces must be on canvas or foam board w/ dimensions 24x24 inches or bigger
· Drawing, painting, digital art, or photography are acceptable
· Submit art pieces to your local school/nonprofit official
· Digital art and photography can be sent electronically w/ printable .pdf file to [email protected]
· Submission deadline: April 10th & winners announced April 17th

15-20 pieces will be selected and framed in a 1-night exhibit for family & friends at !
Exhibit Date: Spring or Summer 2023 (TBD)

Our first yoga event of 2023 was a success! Once a month GUC will be offering free yoga classes for ages +10 and up at the Compton airport.
