When my kid started kindergarten we attended a camping trip to get to know others in the community (the school was KapKa). Having arrived and settled in, I ventured out to the campfire and here was this first grader sitting there with the adults, playing an acoustic guitar. I was impressed; he played well and on an instrument that seemed bigger than he was.
At 12 years old he wrote and recorded an album at home and he and his parents came to me to see about re-recording it at Soundhouse. We tracked the basics (although he had played all of the instruments, I convinced them to hire a drummer and bassist) in February of 2019 and worked on it sporadically over the next year, finishing in February 2020. It was incredible - by any standard. His music and song writing was more sophisticated than a lot of adults I've worked with!
He did not release that album, understandably; by the time we finished it he was 14, his voice had changed … and that's a long time in kid years :)
I heard from him again in late 2021, as he wanted to come to play and record drums for his new album ... having played and recorded all of the other instruments at home.
He had been practicing. He was even better, all the way around. He mixed and mastered it himself.
Aurora. Released April 22, 2022.
Please meet Wyatt Silva.
