Egypt has signed three cooperation agreements with Djibouti covering maritime transport, logistics, and renewable energy, as part of broader efforts to deepen economic and trade ties between the two countries, according to a cabinet statement.

The agreements were signed during an official visit by Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister, to the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA).

The Suez Canal Authority has signed the executive agreement for a grant-funded project provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), valued at $22 million (approximately EGP 1 billion), to finance the construction and supply of a Diving Support Vessel (DSV).

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has decided to reduce the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the main operation rate by 100 basis points, bringing them to 20.00%, 21.00%, and 20.50%, respectively. Additionally, the discount rate has been lowered to 20.50.

This decision is based on the Committee’s updated evaluation of inflation trends and its revised outlook since the last MPC meeting.

Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, pointed out that Egypt’s private sector has received concessional funding amounting to $2.8 billion in the current year from development partners, bringing the total funding received since 2020 to approximately $17 billion.

In a meeting with members of Sanate Foreign Relations Committee, she noted that banks and financial institutions are the largest recipients of financing, accounting for 41.4% of the total, through credit lines that are re-lent to the private sector in Egypt.
