The family of Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson are saddened to announce the passing of our dearly beloved “Gappa”. He passed away in the early hours of Tuesday 11th June in Coventry, the city where he came to fame as frontman for the 2-Tone group The Selecter. Gappa was actively performing with the group until he was diagnosed with cancer last year. Even then, he fought his way back from ill-health to join Jools Holland’s R & B Orchestra as a guest artist for their Autumn/Winter Tour 2023.

Gaps was known the world over for singing the title track on The Selecter’s debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’, he brought a captivating angst and frustration to the track as he described the trials and tribulations of daily life for the working man.

He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Today is the 44th Anniversary of the hit 2 Tone single that never really was!
Elvis Costello’s decided on a cover of Sam & Dave classic “I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down”
It hit the hight of number 4 in the UK
It was release on F-Beat Records in February 1980.
It was Elvis' Second biggest Single Oliver’s Army his first reached number 2 in Feb 79
I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down Was originally penciled in for release on 2 Tone 18th Jan1980.
A few thousand copies were produced by 2 Tone, contract issues halted and stopped the song being released
2 Tone records single were given away out side of some gigs
You all know these are possibly the most wanted releases on 2 Tone

I've had 4 copies of this and when times been hard I've had to reluctantly sell

The Specials’ debut album. Was produced by Mr Costello(like didn't already know this 😂👌)
