The feeling you will get of doing something for someone else is one of the greatest rushes you will ever get but it will be nothing compared to the person who gets those flowers. Someone who may be thinking no-one cares. You have the chance to make someones day, so go ahead and make their day.

I have been on an extremely solid run of cars the last few weeks. This is another in that line of "Cars I didn't want to give back", the Mercedes-Benz USA GLE 53 AMG SUV. High Tech, High off the ground (adjustable air suspension) and High Powered (429 hp/413 lb.ft torque) the GLE seems rugged enough to take you to the top of a mountain or tame enough to be a great vehicle on a cross country road trip. Several adjustable drive modes let yo tailor the suspension to your driving needs. All in s spectacular looking package available in the hatchback that I drove or a square back for a more traditional SUV look. $99,310 is the sticker and gas mileage figures come in at 18/22/20. The GLE is a quick, fun to drive go anywhere vehicle that brings three letters...AMG...that put it at the top of the class.

This week it wasnt just a car… it was an experience. The all electric BMW USA iX M60 Sports Action Vehicle is truly a object where engineering, computers, batteries and art and design all merge to produce a superior product. BMW has put out a vehicle that they think todays luxury buyer desires with style and personalization added to the ability to go fast and stop smart. Everything this vehicle does it does well from setting up the mood inside the car to carving up your favorite set of curves. With all of the ways you can set the driving dynamics you can be Steve McQueen rolling over San Francisco one minute and on the next block be Jerry Van D**e taking his mother the car out for a drive. Well done BMW. At $115,870 sticker price it should do all that and then some. The iX M60 gives you your money’s worth and then some!

Can it get any better than the Ford Motor Company Maverick Hybrid...this weeks Drivetime Radio and TV Road Test Vehicle? A reasonable size, excellent maneuverability, high 40's MPG wise and 4K pounds of pulling power(on some models)! Add to that its well done and comfortable interior with just enough tech and a lot of recycled materials and you can easily see why they are selling all they can make. Sometimes smaller is better and the Maverick proves that. It might not take up all of the testosterone in the dealers showroom but at a below $30k sticker price it makes perfect sense in a pick-up truck world gone mad.

This week we have made it back to somewhat normal as we roll the 2023 Kia Sportage X Pro Prestige. Sharp small SUV that maneuvers easy, parks nicely, is very spacious, comfortable and techie all in a very attractive package. With adjustable drive modes and a raised clearance it even has some off road chops to it. This vehicle has the 2.5 non-turbo which gives you 227 horses and 258 lb/ft of torque. A lot to like here if you are looking for that around town car with an occasional off road foray. Really hope to experience the turbo in the future. Hope you like the video.

Talk about two ends of the automotive spectrum...Going from the all-electric 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e, last weeks YVWDTW to the 2023 Ford Motor Company F150 Raptor R that is pushing over 700 horsepower and has never met a gas station it didn't like this week. As we said in last weeks edition, the Mach-e is a much more engaging and improved version from the 2021 model I originally picnicked in the FRUNK of just two years ago!
Both vehicles stand out from the crowd and do what they are meant to do...excite you about driving them. How they get to that excitement... two very different ways.
The Raptor R brings loud and proud to the table. From your neighbors asking you not to start it until after 6AM because it wakes the whole complex up to the way young men drool at it when you drive it through Dick's Drive In Restaurant parking lot on a Saturday night. The truck says look at me! But it says look quick as the Raptor R will deliver you from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds with 640 Lb/Ft of supercharged torque knocking you back into the Recaro seat. It is a bad m***a!
So what is this super truck going to set you back? $111,935 is the MSRP on this particular model and I am sure that dealers will add a premium to that number.
The Raptor R is a truck that excites, makes old men feel young again, gets you excited every time you fire it up and is one of the last vehicles we will see of it's kind. That is one reason it was awarded the NWAPA Mudfest Pick Up Truck of the Year Award. It is as intense as a motor vehicle can get putting an unreasonable amount of power at your foot. Just remember to use that power wisely!

This week we sport around in the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e X. A little pricey at over $67k but the improvements between the introduction of this car 2 years ago and what I am in this week are truly remarkable. Range with the optional 86kW extended range battery ($8600 option), connectivity to chargers, the Sync system and BlueCruise are all improved for the good. Add to that the All Wheel Drive and you have a stellar Northwest car that will go toe to toe with a Tesla in a heartbeat.

Just gave up an absolutely incredible vehicle. If you can get into one to take a spin or a long ride…do it. Kia America has built one of the most incredible performance cars I have driven in all year…The Kia EV6 GT Line AWD. When the Lime Green GT Button on the steering wheel is pushed this car takes you to a whole different place without hesitation or delay…that place… 576 Horsepower electrically pushed out to two motors, one front, one back, The GV also handles and stops with huge brake rotors dressed with Green calipers and an electronic suspension that is tuned to the Nth. It feels safe at any speed. And just in case things get out of hand the Kia driver assist technology can compensate for a lot of mistakes. Recaro style buckets and lime green stitching gave the grey interior a well proportioned look while making it an extremely comfortable road car…I would love to take this ride cross country. You do give up range for the GT AWD model…220 was the best I could do. It did fully recharge in under an hour using the 350kW fast charger.
Ticket Price on the model I drove $62,865 and it is not crash rated yet. One other note…it has a frunk but its small…more like a cubbyhole that a frunk
All that being said the EV6 AWD GT is a performance car that would make any muscle car owner proud and take it from me…if the guy drivin’ some vette or Mustang wants to race you..tell him that your girlfriend doesnt race her EV6.

Hello Kids! Today is YVWDTW story time. Our Drivetime Radio and TV Radio Road Test car is the 2023 Mazda USA CX9 Signature AWD. One of my favorite SUV's to drive because they work a whole lot of connection to the road...driver satisfaction... into a three row vehicle. Anyway the story...So I am sitting in the Mazda CX9 parked outside a Safeway. I'm groovin' to a tune on the radio...giving the steering wheel the drum treatment when all of a sudden the left door opens up and an older man is standing there. I'm shocked and immediately grab for the cop flashlight I keep next to me at all times while the guy jumps back screaming no no no. You have to remember that this is on Highway 99 where there have been some carjackings. The guy now puts his hands up backing away and my head is buzzing and what little adrenaline I have left is pulsing through me...what the hell is going on? As he apologizes he says that he went to the wrong car...that his car ...also white...also a bigger SUV is the Lexus parked in the next row.
He again apologizes...I say don't worry about it we are all good while thinking...I am glad I don't carry a gun! The point of the story is that if Mazda is trying to move upscale, to be known as a luxury brand with their improved interiors and styling they are doing a great job as I know one dude who thinks that they are at the level of Lexus with this outgoing CX9!
I have driven a number of these CX9's over the years and they never disappoint. There are SUV's in this class with more cargo space, a better third row and higher tech but none of them compare or satisfy the driver as the Mazda does. The 4cyl Turbo Skyactiv engine has plenty of power but the Mazda wins you over in interior quality fit and finish and more importantly to work some real feel...real road connection into the driving experience. Its sport mode has just a wee bit more sport in it than others in this price range.
$50,455 is the MSRP and the CX9's EPA mileage numbers are 20 city/26 highway/23 combined and it gets a five star overall safety rating from the Feds.
This will be the last year for the CX9 as it will be replaced as Mazda's top car with the new CX90 which by all accounts will be more upscale, more luxurious. I hope it is able to keep the driving dynamics...the attention to the driver that the CX9 handled so well.

Sometimes you get into a car and it is so compelling, so fun to drive, so above the standard that you wind up taking long drives for short errands, taking the backroads when the interstate will get you there much quicker and discovering something new and exciting every time you get behind the wheel. Such is the case with this week's Drivetime Radio and TV Road Test vehicle, the 2022 Audi USA RS3 Sedan with Quattro. From the moment you slide behind the wheel and sit in the specially designed supportive seats and hit the button to fire up the 5 cylinder power plant you feel the power, the rumble of greatness. From the outside you see the changes that distinguish the RS from a regular old A3 sedan. Tastefully done spoilers, ground effects, black accents, wheels and exhaust tips give the RS3 a "ready to go" stance that cries "Drive Me". Flip the switch into drive and the Audi performance tuning that produces 401 horses comes to life getting you to 60MPH in a tad under 4 seconds comfortably but with a sense of urgency that you feel in most performance cars. The Dual Clutch seven speed automatic practically begs you to use the paddle shifters to send the power to the wheels that grip the asphalt courtesy of the performance 19" Pirelli shoes that Audi has slapped on the RS. The combo helps you carve up the backroads with the precision of a master chefs knife set.
What distinguishes the RS is its ability to be a daily driver with comfort...kind of a Clark Kent mode. Slip it into the right mode and the grey suit comes off and Superman emerges with all the thrills that brings on or off the track. Audi luxury and gut moving performance wrapped up into one sharp looking sedan. Add the Bang and Olufsen sound system and you will be begging the boss to let you drive into work every day!
Sticker price on the 2022 Audi RS3 Quattro Sedan $64,845 with the Technology Package which I personally think it is a bargain for what you get. 20 city/29 highway/23 combined are the EPA fuel economy figures. The Audi A3 is a Top Safety Pick of the IIHS.
I thank the automotive Gods that there are still companies that turn out exciting, fun to drive, CARS that while are expensive as compared to their non performance counterparts bring the joy of driving closer to the ground and to those who see cars as recreation and fun and not just an appliance.

One of the more satisfying mid size SUV's I have driven this year is the redesigned 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport AWD. The package adds some light to medium duty off-roadworthiness to a vehicle that already has been set up to be a family friendly favorite. The Pilot TrailSport comes with all sorts of additions that make a trip off the pavement possible including specially designed and engineered suspension components, skid plates and tow points front and rear, special drive modes, higher body clearance, hill decent mode and other goodies like increased horsepower and torque and a AWD drive system that directs more power to the rear wheels when it is needed. All of this earns this model of the Pilot some off-road "cred" while still keeping in sight the fact that this is a ride that is going to see the majority of its time in school zones and Trader Joe's parking lots and the roads that connect them. Outside Honda brings the design inline with other vehicles in the lineup including a black grille and the now trendy huge letters across the tailgate that scream out PILOT. Huge door openings make the Pilot easy to get in and out of while the seats in all three rows are comfortable. Honda has a neat trick that has the middle second row seat removable and storable under the rear floor. The dash is intuitive, infotainment screen large and clear and there is a very useful storage space in the dash in front of the passenger. I was surprised at how many times I utilized this space in a week of driving the Pilot TrailSport.
I was lucky enough to run into some serious snow in Portland and the TrailSport handled the hills like a champ in snow mode while handling nicely on the bare and wet portion of the drive.
Sticker price on the fairly loaded 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport AWD I drove was $50,150. EPA Mileage Figures...18 city/23 highway/20 combined. No safety ratings available from NHTSA or IIHS. The Pilot does come with Sensing...a full suite of safety equipment.
Previously if you were a Honda loyalist and you wanted to go really far off road you had to go to another brand. Honda hopes the TrailSport will be rugged enough to keep you and your family in Honda product clear to the top of the mountain. Any mountain!

I have a little catching up to do so you are going to see a few “Yo Vinnie’s” in fairly rapid succession. Kicking off “Yo Vinniepalooza” is the Lexus that so many have been waiting for for a long time The 2023 RX500h F Sport Performance Direct4 hybrid. With every step Lexus takes they seem to create a vehicle that satisfies. Now in the RX500h they have a vehicle that excites…that turns you on with speed and handling when you drive it. Outside Lexus has refined their design with sweeping lines that give their vehicle an “in motion” look. Up front that gargantuan grille has been cut down to size by what we old guys used to call a header panel.
Inside it’s about as cushy as you can get with heated and massaging seats in a stunning red and black combination in the vehicle I drove. Gone is the mousepad setup for infotainment replaced by a logical touchscreen that works perfectly. Rear seat room is improved as is cargo space.
But does it go? Oh yes it goes…very powerfully thank you. Lexus 2.4 liter turbo 4 cylinder engine makes it’s hybrid debut here. Add an electric motor and it gets you to 366 hp. They call the system Direct4…I call it quick, smooth, and muscular. Rear wheel steering tweaks the handling just enough to notice it.
Sticker price on the 2023 Lexus RX500h F Sport Performance Direct 4…say it five times fast…I dare you… with Lexus Safety +3 system $70,620 estimated. EPA Mileage numbers…City 27/Highway 28/Combined 27.
While the RX500h isn’t going to light up the local track or give you neck snapping G force acceleration it is going to make those trips to grandma’s or that drive out to the Oregon Coast a lot more exciting for who ever is behind the wheel!

Hard to remember a car I have driven recently that has evoked more comments about the color of said ride.
From people stopping on Sunset Avenue in the rain to comment to each other about this unique kind of military green to the comments at last Saturday’s Shoreline Cars & Coffee, Audi USA has a winner in this $595 optional “District Green Metallic” on the 2022 S5 Cabriolet Prestige Edition.
Actually the color is the most visible part of this incredible roadster. Complimenting the well sculpted lines of the S5 with this beautiful color emphasizes the beauty of a car that is quickly disappearing from the automotive landscape…the large convertible.
Great proportion of roof to body to hood to deck covers up one of the best put together interiors of any car out there today. Huge gauge clusters and infotainment screens plus a heads up display are clear and easy to understand and to operate. It seems like someone at Audi spent some time with people who drive their cars asking the magic question “where would this switch work best?”. The S5 makes the switches accessible so that a driver can concentrate on driving enjoyment rather that how do I turn the defroster down??
Slap it into sport mode and while the 349 HP 3.0 TFSI Turbo V6 QUATTRO AWD system inspires confidence in its road manners the want of a manual transmission in place of the 8 speed automatic grows by the mile driven!
Sticker price for the 2022 Audi S5 Cabriolet Prestige Edition comes out to $73,540 with EPA Fuel Figures at 21 city/28 highway/23 combined.
I’m not sure how long you will be able to buy a convertible, a car that always has meant freedom, enjoyment and the lure of the open road in our ever changing automotive landscape but if you are looking for a car that heats your butt, massages it, lets you see the world from a comfortable seat and is essence a 4,000 pound anti-depressant, I’m not sure you can do better than the Audi S5 Cabriolet.

This week it’s the VW Atlas. Roomy, solid with three rows this is VW large and in charge in the SUV space!
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 Limited. Simply put...this Hyundai may be better than a Tesla. If I were going out to buy a Model 3, I certainly would take a test drive in the Ioniq 6 first...just to make sure. This week we are sportin’ thru the snow in our current Drivetime Radio and TV Road Test vehicle…the hot off the presses 2023 Honda HR-V All Wheel Drive EX-L. All new for ‘23 the HR-V gets a complete redesign including an upgraded interior with more space, a ton of driver assist equipment now standard and the Civic’s 2.0 Liter 4 cyl engine that makes 158 HP. The HR-V handled nicely in the snow even in slight off-road conditions on a US Forest Service Road and felt solid in highway cruising. $30,590 sticker price with EPA mileage figures of 25/30/27.
