The Sporades are on high fire alert because of the hot weather, the dryness of the ground and the strong winds that are blowing. Please be careful and don't do any activities or work that can spark flames and can cause a fire. Don't BBQ! Don't go into the forest without a reason. If you see a fire, smoke or anything that resembles it, call! Even if you are not a 100% sure. Better to be safe than sorry. The numbers are below.

Yesterday evening we saw a very nice and enchanting performance from the YIP S choir from Hong Kong. The young men and women sang contemporary songs, songs from musicals, film and of course a medley from Mama Mia. We saw a very enthusiastic group of very talented young people and the concert was just the right time, with a lot of information about the pieces that were performed and we saw them not just sing but dance and act too....

Two days ago a new boat called Petroula started sailing in the Sporades. The boat will sail between Skiathos, Glossa, Agnondas, Alonissos and vice versa. About 64 passengers fit in the boat. There are no online tickets available, only via the following boat ticket offices. For more information on Skiathos you can go to the ticket office Skiathos OE, for Skopelos the office of Nikos Triandafyllou 24240-22360 and 24240-22767 or 24240-33435 and 33042 and Alonissos the office of mr. Vlaikou. The boat times are below here ΑΝΑΧΏΡΗΣΗ means departure. ΆΦΙΞΉ means arrival. Means Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Means Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

When I was running for council member in the latest local elections I made a promise to the mayor that if he got elected I would be available for non Greeks during the summer if they wanted to ask a question(s) about municipal/island matters. If they wanted to put an idea forward or even if they wanted to complain. I will be in an office every week on a Wednesday for two hours (of the tourist committee) which is situated in the low buildings behind the children's playground....

Today Skopelos lost a beloved priest, a scholar, a writer but above all, a very nice and gentle human being. We offer our condolences to his wife Ourania, his children his family and especially to Alexandros, his son. I will never forget that Papa Kostas came up to our house some years ago to officially bless a small shrine we built. We talked long about anything except the blessing until it got dark and I asked him if we could do the blessings....

Until September the 30st it is prohibited to stop and park vehicles (cars and motorbikes etc.) throughout the length of the harbour front in Skopelos town. The no parking starts at the Gika coffee/pastry shop and until the Panagitsa tou Pyrgos church in the old harbour. The specific measure highlights the work done on the street and will give everybody that spend time there to fully enjoy the area.

Last Sundays walk to Amarantos, although well known to the Scramblers, did not disappoint with views, a wonderful picnic and 12 walkers and two furry friends to chat to. This Sundays walk begins at Sklavenitis supermarket Skopelos Town at 10.30 to organize transport. From there they will drive to Pyrgos, where the walk down to Panormos beach, will begin. Last Sundays walk to Vathia beach in Kalogeros was wonderful. The road is good enough to walk on but with a car it is difficult. The Scramblers had a picnic and a swim there. This Sunday morning everybody will meet at Sklavenitis supermarket at 10.30 hours. There we can see who goes in whose car to drive to the starting point of the walk....

A simple cake brought tears to my eyes today. It was just given to me by my landlady. She said she made one and gave me these two pieces and she was then going to give another two pieces to her mother, who lives opposite the street during the summer. I put the pieces on my desk without looking at them but when I started to smell the cake it suddenly brought tears to my eyes. These simple things make me realize again and again why I love living here. The people, their kindness! Home is where the hearts are.

Many trees and bushes are blooming, flowers have come up and showing their bright colors! We have seen hedgehogs come out of their wintersleep, there are more and more insects around and this morning I saw my first butterfly up close....
