Want to be an ally and don’t know where to start?

For a very long time I wanted to speak up in the basic human right to love who you want to love and for a very long time my “morals” kept me quiet.

One day the universe and the galaxies extracted me (this was a whole operation lol) from the christian cult I was planted and I had the opportunity to to see the world from above the trees. I realized that one of the main reasons I wouldn’t speak up was because of my lack of knowledge on the matter. How can I speak up for something I didn’t even understand? Here are some steps I took to become an ally.

A journalist asks a woman: “Would you rather be stranded in the woods with a man or a bear?

She answered with no hesitation: “A bear.”

Queue the male outrage!!

Now we get litanies of men telling us why we would be safer with them instead of the bear.

Men failed to understand that there are far worse fates than death. This became one more debate where we as women were cruelly scrutinized for trying to have a conversation about how unsafe we feel around men.

After watching this conversation unravel in social media, these are some of the comments left by women about why they will choose the bear.

This month, you’ll see many posts about autism awareness and acceptance. There is a difference between being aware and being accepting, but neither is inherently better than the other. Awareness and acceptance work together.
When discussing awareness, we’re not referring to portraying autism as a disease needing a cure. Instead, we’re referring to educating people about what autism looks like, how to best support autistic individuals, and how to access diagnostic and support resources. In the past, there were discussions about moving away from the term “autism acceptance,” but many autistic adults informed us that this view was short-sighted, especially for autistic children from underserved populations who need awareness to gain access to support.
Of course, acceptance is always the ultimate goal. Spreading acceptance means confronting our discomfort with autism, identifying our own prejudices, and taking daily steps to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be autistic.
