GNP Crescendo was born in 1954, out of Gene Norman's love for jazz and his determination to share it as widely as possible. During his career as a disc jockey and TV personality, Gene presented many live shows in the LA area, and many others up and down the California coast. The very first recordings of the concerts were released by Capital Records, with Gene deciding to add a record label to his
already full plate shortly thereafter. The concert series "Gene Norman Presents" and his Sunset Strip nightclub "The Crescendo" gave name to the label, which will celebrate 60 years of continuous ownership in the not too distant future. As well as the big jazz names such as Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton GNP Crescendo has also found success with many other genres and acts. Some of our more well-known offerings include The Seeds, John Mayall, Dick Dale, Savoy Brown, Joe & Eddie, Bill Watrous, The Robins, Walter Wanderley, Arthur Lyman, Frances Faye, Gary Richrath, The Limeliters, and many and varied others. The label also made significant forays into the soundtrack arena with an eye on science fiction, and offers more than a dozen Star Trek titles, including music from the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, and a good handful of the movies as well. Other soundtracks released include Quantum Leap, The Time Machine, Forbidden Planet, Honk, Forever Knight, Godzilla, Dune and Highlander.
