Understanding your customer is a key piece of data you need before you can understand their problem, whether or not you can solve it, and how to communicate that you can solve it in a way that’s consistent with your brand personality and the desires of the customer.

Devising courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones - that’s how we define ‘design.’
Thinking of design in this way allows us to use design to solve real business problems by focusing on the root causes and needs of users.

We made a video last year talking about some upcoming changes to Instagram in 2022. One of the things we talked about was that the chronological feed was coming back to Instagram in early 2022. Today Adam Mosseri (CEO of Instagram) confirmed this along with some other feed changes.
If you're a social media marketer or a business owner managing their social channels, this information would be helpful to you.

When people hear the words “brand strategy,” they immediately think of identity design, logo work, or how communication ‘looks.’ But brand strategy is much more than visuals and messaging - it’s the combination of branding, marketing, business understanding, and design thinking.

It’s important to be very intentional about who you are as a brand, and who you’re for. The best way to ensure you don’t reach anyone, is to try to reach everyone.

Prior to being able to communicate who you are and why you exist, you must first understand who it is you are and why you exist. Seems easy enough, but you’d be surprised how many people skip right over this important step.

Brand strategy is a lot like therapy, there’s no use trying it if you’re not open to:
1 - Recognizing there might be a problem with your brand.
2 - Putting actions into play to solve that problem if there is one.
Positive movement requires deep introspection and change.
We’re not too worried about subjective wants, we’re concerned with solving the real pain points.

If you’re thinking like your customer, then you’re making their needs your needs. When their needs are your needs you can properly assess how to solve their problem, which is now conveniently your problem.

A touch point is anything a current or future customer comes across as it relates to your brand.
✔️ Website, that’s a touch point.
✔️ Business card, that’s a touch point.
✔️ Print graphic, that’s a touch point.
✔️ Social media channels, that’s a touch point.
✔️ Merch, that’s a touch point.
✔️ Packaging, that’s a touch point.

The first step before building something large is building a strong foundation.
—
Story time:
3 years ago we were approached by a client that wanted to build a website. They had a decent budget to build a great site. The only problem was they didn’t have an established identity. They hadn’t yet sat down to figure out who they were or who their ‘customers’ were, which meant there weren’t any real guidelines or systems for our team to rely on to ensure what we created for them.. would be ‘them.’
So we told them not to spend what they wanted to spend, and we gave the recommendation to first direct some of their budget towards strategy & identity design.
We did this with the full understanding that we would make a little bit less than what the client wanted to pay in the immediate timeframe. But we also knew the client would be better positioned in the long game.
Fast forward to now - we’ve done numerous projects for this client, because the foundation we helped create enabled much more growth for them, which in turn created more budget for our team to operate with on their behalf.
So here’s the advice: play the long game and build a strong foundation, build a real brand.

Culture is one of the core pillars that supports your overall brand.
What’s the culture of your business or personal brand? Not sure? Don’t worry - many business owners don’t know the answer to this question.
The first thing to ask yourself is:
“How do I want my community to describe me?”
Understanding the answer to this question will help you determine what you need to do to earn that cultural reputation - and more importantly how to craft your messaging to fit that narrative.
After you convey your culture in a clear and consistent way for a prolonged period of time you’ll begin to foster a community of people that both understand and are attracted to your culture. The more dense your community becomes, the more recognizable your brand becomes.

Video allows brands to display products in a dynamically engaging way.
Compared to a photo or text on a screen, videos catch the eye and engage viewers quicker. They also deliver information more efficiently than reading text, meaning you can get the point across to your viewers in seconds.
Have you used video in marketing for your business or company? What did results look like for you?

Your company’s ‘brand’ is whatever your customers think and feel about your product, service, or company.
Branding is the act of messaging your customers for the purpose of guiding their perception so that you can influence how they think and feel.
Brand Guidelines are a set of systems created in order to help you accomplish successful messaging campaigns through your website, social media, print, etc. The more you deviate from your established brand guidelines, the less consistent the presence of your brand will be, and the less recognizable your brand is.

One of the most counter-intuitive things about branding is that focusing on a smaller group of people makes your chances of reaching more, a lot better. * There’s where positioning comes in. Positioning is just the determination of what you do, and who you do it for. * Brands that try to be everything to everyone end up being nothing to no one.
