While I still have yet to do any actual production work for Nerd Noise Radio on the Steam Deck (the Jan 2023 episode or one of the Dec 2022 episodes is what I expect will be the first actual Deck-produced episode), I did spend a bunch of time today working on a spreadsheet from the Deck showing the list of all pieces of VGM (and closely-related non-VGM) that we shared over calendar 2022. That will help my co-host and I with our track selection for our "Best of 2022" episodes in December (one of which could possibly end up being our first ever "Deck-isode"). :-) - and will also be shared publicly in January for anyone (perhaps one of you?) who might want to contribute to a potential "Listener Best Of".

Also, unrelated to NNR, I was listening to a little Spotify in the background while I worked! :-)

I'm just happy that I'm actually starting to get REAL use out of desktop mode on this thing. It was a full third of what had me so jazzed for the Steam Deck coming into it, but I'd barely touched it until only very recently! :-)

Cheers!

2020 / 2021, among a great many other things were....weird, and blended together in such a way that they were less like 2 12mo years, and more like 1 24mo monster year. Well, though hopefully more pleasant and less chaotic / distressing, the same can otherwise be said of Nerd Noise Radio as well!

Hear pt 1 of 2 of our retrospective....of our weirdest season to date - an episode which intentionally leans full-on into that weirdness, and to [I think] magnificent effect! Intro / outro are longer than usual. Of course, that's because they're also recapping two full years in which a great many things happened! Also see the show notes for two additional 2020 / 2021 headlines that didn't make the intro.

Cheers!

Over the month of June (and as it turns out, extending into July now as well), a number of various outlets in the greater VGM [video game music] podcast scene all came together to collaborate on a massive focus over a common theme: our favorite VGM composers. Something to the effect of 20 unique programs have all contributed (or are preparing to contribute) to what we are collectively calling the "Masters of VGM" series! I'll include a link to the website in a reply-to-self in the comments so that it's clickable. You can also follow the project on Twitter at .

And as for our involvement in this great and glorious project?......Nerd Noise Radio proudly presents: Nerd Noise Game Club C2E8: "Our Four Favorites"! (Masters of VGM series)

Enjoy! Drop me a line if this is your first time listening in a while (or ever!) If you're a fan of NNR already, please check out some of these other great shows!

p.s. I'm using a launchpad service so that you can listen on whichever service you prefer. Or, if you're already subscribed to the podcast feed, it should already be there waiting for you! :-)

I'm actually a few days late in posting this, but on this month's installment of Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1, we make a return visit to the music of what is unquestionably my all-time favorite VGM cover band, The OneUps , on a program we're aptly calling "Keeping Up with The OneUps - vol. 2"; featuring a music block I produced all the way back in mid 2019, and intended for release much earlier, but which never saw the light of day.....TILL NOW (this will be a recurring theme for calendar 2022 episodes, by the way).

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e63-keeping/id1191401173?i=1000553843837

P.s. Our first rerun of the month last week was the original; "Keeping up with TheOneUps - vol 1" from December 2017, which I'll include in the comments. The production value is MUCH higher on vol 2 (and vol 2 is about twice as long), but from a "quality of music / musical journey" perspective, I consider them equals. I hope you will enjoy them both! Fun fact: each episode's music blocks were both pulled from the same original mass of tracks, so in a sense, today's collection actually goes even further back, all the way back to 2017! 😯

P.p.s. (yes, I did just do that!) Production note: this will be the final episode of Ch 1 (or maybe even NNR altogether) to be produced using the old mic set up of AudioTechnica AT2020 into M-Audio MobilePre which NNR has used since the very beginning. So you'll definitely notice a big production value shift for C1E64 in May, and maybe even C2E7 in April.

What happens when you take two guys who are generally pretty "fairweather" about hard rock and heavy metal, and task them with doing a focus on hard, heavy (and adjacent) VGM in the middle of winter? Well, great music and good times, apparently!

Also, St. John's 42nd birthday, and a really odd family connection of his to a huge (and terrible) moment in rock and roll "this day in history!"

Nerd Noise Radio proudly presents: "Fast Music for Slow Times!"

Today’s Broadcast is C2E6 for Theme Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 (St. John’s 42nd Birthday!). Today’s focus will be a rare look into hard rock, heavy metal, and adjacent music on a program we’re calling “Fast Music for Slow Times” (a loving and playful inv...

Our biggest change ever to the Channel 1 intro (and one long overdue), a new resident sign-off caller (and the hilariously haphazard audio of getting this 3yr old to say it right), the return of an episode type that even I didn't think may ever be coming back (Soundtrack Saturday), a subject matter that may [---MAY---] be a first ever in all of VGM podcast history (an entire LaserActive soundtrack) - and [I think], the second shortest epiosde we've had since all the way back in 2018..........
......ladies and gentlemen......Season 5 starts NOW! :-D

Today’s broadcast is C1E61 for Soundtrack Saturday, January 29th, 2022. Today’s soundtrack is the 3D Museum soundtrack, on the Pioneer LaserActive! Sound files provided by the LaserActive Preservation Project. Track list info provided by YouTuber "sleepy a...

Post 2 of 2:

See post 1 for more details, but today brings a simulcast of two episodes by two different podcasters, Nerd Noise Radio and NintenDomain Podcast , on a common subject: music by composers with the ! On top of that, on the NNR side, our episode featured not St. John at the helm, as is the norm, but rather, Hugues Johnson of Retro Game Club (and NNR - Channel 2). The FIRST EVER episode of NNR since production began 5yrs ago that St. John had absolutely no hand in producing whatsoever!

I shared our Nerd Noise Radio episode in post 1. Go check it out! In the meanwhile, please enjoy "W.A.R.T. Radio - Ys and Falcom Music" - by Trey Johnson of Nintendomain!

https://nintendomain.libsyn.com/wart-radio-ys-and-falcom-music

p.s. I know this isn't an Iowa podcast. As implied in post 1, it's actually a Chicago podcast. But since it was part of a two-part series made in conjunction with a Des Moines podcast (itself special hosted just this once by yet another Chicagoan), I figured we'd let it slide just this once. ;-)

On this episode of WART Radio, we drop the hottest beats from the ys series and other Falcom classics! Post 1 of 2:

Today, I have not one, but TWO episodes to share with you - only one of them an actual Nerd Noise Radio episode, and NEITHER of them produced by me personally! For the first time in the 5yrs since production began, there is now an NNR episode that I had absolutely no hand in producing! And to top it off, it's not only such a special episode for NNR, and for me personally, but it also just so happens to be only one half of a simulcast with Trey Johnson of NintenDomain Podcast and W.A.R.T. Radio, each of us releasing episodes this morning on music by the legendary composers with the !

I'll follow this up with a separate post linking you to Trey's episode of W.A.R.T. Radio, but first.....the episode on our side of exchange features none other than Hugues Johnson of Retro Game Club and Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2 (and alumnus of the late, great "The Retro League") at the helm with a 36 track musical adventure bookended by the most "non-St. John" intro and outro in our show's history! 🥰

Between these two fine Chicagoans, they've left this Des Moineser not much to do today besides writing up some show notes, doing social media blasts....and oh yeah, giving me (and all of you) a combined four hours of AMAZING MUSIC to enjoy the journey through! And as for me, it's so wild to be "just a listener" to my own show for once. But like a chef getting to sit down to a meal that someone else cooked for once, it's actually a really great feeling! I hope you will enjoy the listen as much as I have! 🥰

Here's the Nerd Noise Radio episode:

Today’s broadcast is C1E59, for Theme Thursday, Oct 14th, 2021. Today’s Theme is a focus on music from games by Falcom, on a program we’re simply calling “The Falcom Episode”.    SPECIAL UP-FRONT NOTE 1: This episode is EXTRA SPECIAL for three reasons: 1) ...

On today's episode of Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 2, Hugues and I focus on music from games only available in Japan, forget to do "top of the show" til much later, completely botch a genuine attempt to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11, hunt for 80's J-Pop Christmas albums, talk sound hardware, try to sound smart about games we've mostly never played....and marshal our first ever "censor sound" for Channel 2 (in the blooper reel).

Truthfully, it may be my favorite Ch 2 episode to date! And here's to hoping that you agree! Also, contains a HUGE special announcement that Ch 2 fans will definitely want (and probably be happy) to hear!

Nerd Noise Radio proudly presents: "Nihon Dake De" (roughly translated: "Only in Japan")!

Today’s Broadcast is C2E5, for Theme Thursday, September 23rd, 2021. Today’s Theme is music from games only available in Japan, on a program we’re calling “Nihon Dake De” (loosely translated: “Only in Japan”)! Track Number - Track - Game - System - Composer - Selected by - Timestamp 01...

Nerd Noise Radio C2E5 being assembled for release as we speak! I'm really excited for this one! Also, a great big announcement for "Channel 2" fans at the end of the episode, so be sure not to miss that! Also, FWIW, this is the first NNR production to be produced on the "Linux Gaming PC" as opposed to the "Linux Laptop". The gaming PC is hugely more powerful than the laptop at graphics, which doesn't matter here, and is either equivalent to or slightly-to-moderately more powerful in every other regard than the laptop except for boot drive storage, which also doesn't matter here, but may come up as a side subject in the episode (you'll have to listen to find out)! Available this Thursday morning! 🙂
