About Safe(r) Space:
Since Fall 2013, The Anthologist has remained dedicated to being a “safer space.” A safe space would guarantee freedom from oppressive structures such as racism, sexism, classism, etc.. As a “safer space,” we will do our best to create an ongoing supportive and non-threatening e
nvironment that encourages mutual respect and open-mindedness. The Anthologist operates as a safer space by:
* Labeling works that may provoke debilitating and/or significantly distressing responses for those who have experienced trauma.
* Abstaining from oppressive language, such as derogatory terms.
* Recognizing and criticizing works that reinforce forms of oppression.
* Encouraging respectful dialogue that promotes understanding rather than shaming peers.
* Requiring officers to attend a Safe(R) Space training. All editorial members are encouraged to attend one as well.**
*All decisions for trigger warnings are made collectively and in correspondence with the author or artist.
**Safe(R) Space training is LGBTQIA specific training that goes over preconceived notions, stereotypes, terminology, Transgender/ Gender Non-Conforming 101. All training takes place from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM on the Livingston Campus the last friday of each month. Sign up here: http://socialjustice.rutgers.edu/safer-space-training-program
