9 years ago I launched by first “big” crab boat. 32ft Haddaway built on tilghman island. I had a lot of small aluminum boats before this one I crabbed out of. Built out of Fiberglass over mulch (previously plywood) I bought it off a guy who bought it off years before. I bought it as a hull and motor and rebuilt it all over the winter while working in a granite counter top shop (this explains the granite countertop in the boat) during the day to fund the project. The first pictures are from when I finished it, then when I got it and how I rebuilt it, then vintage pictures from when and his brother cut it down into a crabbing boat from a charter fishing boat. I sank that boat about 4 times and it was nothing but problems. But i learned a lot about problem solving. We called it the “Widow Maker” because it was super sketchy. I was 18 when I bought that boat. If anyone knows where this boat is let me know.

came out to get some photos of us bringing home the Dora Lynn yesterday. This is the boat I intend to convert into my storefront to sell crabs out of at my lot on Furnace Branch road in Glen Burnie MD.
She’s got some history And her story isn’t over yet! She was built in deltaville Virginia in 1975. As far as I understand She was built for a man named Harvey Corbin who lived and worked the water on smith island and named after his wife Dora Lynn. She’s since traded hands quite a few times and isn’t looking quite as good as she once was (as seen in the last pictures) She had a Detroit 671 in her for power before I got her and believe it or not someone was hand tonging out of her just last year!
I almost feel bad decommissioning such a pretty boat with so much history but her time on the water as a working boat was rapidly coming to an end. With the rising cost of operations, materials, and most of the wooden boat craftsman dying off in the area it would be a stretch for most watermen to get her back to her former glory. I’m hoping to give her new life and a nice place to retire! I hope people can enjoy and appreciate this boat and piece of working Chesapeake bay history for many years to come!
If you have any info on the history of this boat please reach out or comment! I would love to showcase not only the boat but also its past working life and the people involved!
I’d say she’s good as used! I’m intending to have this project done by summer 2024 but I’ve bitten off a big project! Stay tuned!

Faced with aging traditions and an average fisherman age of 60, is not just fishing; he’s making waves. 🌊 Tackling the resistance to change in crabbing, he intertwines respect for heritage with urgent adaptability. Check out this conversation in Episode 14 of the Ol’ Boy Podcast.

Opening day of the crab stand was a major SUCCESS! I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and buying crabs and merch. The last step before they get to the grocery store! Where YOU can go buy them and keep all these hard working men and women employed. From the bay to your table an oyster keeps countless people employed and food on their family’s table! 🦪
