Johnny Vega, 34 of Niagara Falls
Officers responded to the 6000 block of Porter Rd for a two car property damage accident and the driver of the striking vehicle left the scene on foot.
Further investigation revealed that a domestic was occurring inside the vehicle which was occupied by a female and a 4 year old child just prior to the accident. The female occupant advised that Vega was purposely driving erratically and threatening to crash into oncoming traffic. The female occupant also stated Vega drove directly into the vehicle that was involved.
Vega was located by Officers walking out the brush in the Aldi's parking lot. Officer Dobmeier noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Vega and was asked to perform several field sobriety tests. Vega subsequently failed all field sobriety tests and was transported to SP Niagara for a breath test. Vega registered a .24% BAC.
Vega was charged with multiple vehicle and traffic citations, Reckless Driving, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st, DWI, Aggravated DWI- BAC .18% or higher and Leandra's Law- Aggravated DWI/Child in a car.
Vega was transported to the Niagara County Jail for CAP Court arraignment.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for a complaint of neck and back pain.
The 4 year old child was not injured.
