About Us

Colette Publications is a new niche publishing company founded by Nicolette Johnston in 2018. Colette Publications publishes Bed & Breakfast Magazine (bi-monthly) and Chateaux & Castles Quarterly in both print and digital.

Johnston obtained her bachelor's degree in magazine journalism from the University of Oregon in 2006. For her senior project in college, she wrote a business plan for a bed and breakfast she one day dreamed to own. She was an active lifestyle blogger at Simply Colette blog from 2009-2013. She served as copy editor for Belle Inspiration online magazine from 2010-2011. In 2011, she won a press trip sponsored by HomeAway Vacation Rentals to travel to England during the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton. In 2017, she published her first book, "Running Away to Europe" about her travels in Europe. She has traveled internationally four times exploring castles and gardens. She has thus shared her photographic stories on her blog. Johnston took a break from Simply Colette blog in 2013-2017 upon relocating to Nevada where she worked in government and served as the Public Information Officer to the Nevada State Treasurer in Nevada's state capitol.

For years, Johnston periodically researched to see if any new coffee table style books had been published on bed and breakfasts, with no avail. In 2018, she decided to utilize her blogging experience and magazine journalism degree to take matters into her own hands. She now knows her calling is to fully immerse herself in publishing with a niche focus on charming historic accommodations and castles.
