Update: Flood Advisory issued June 24 at 5:03PM EDT until June 24 at 7:15PM EDT by NWS Gray ME

Franklin, ME

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of western Maine, including the following county, Franklin.

* WHEN...Until 715 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 503 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Farmington, Jay, Livermore Falls, Canton, Wilton,
Chesterville, Fayette, Vienna and New Sharon.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

* WHEN...Until 515 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 206 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Farmington, Jay, Livermore Falls, Canton, Wilton,
Chesterville, Fayette, Vienna and New Sharon.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.

US National Weather Service Gray ME says the Slight Risk area across western Maine is mainly driven by the potential for damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. Damage to structures is possible. Large signs, trees, and utility poles may be blown down. Power outages likely where severe storms occur. Heavy rainfall with localized flash flooding and hail are also possible.

Heads up from Farmington Public Works:

On Wednesday, 5/22/2024 Weeks Mill Road will be closed from 6AM-4PM for a culvert replacement. The closure will be for one day only. The attached photo shows the location. The Osborn Rd. will be accessible, and they will be detouring traffic onto Bailey Hill coming into town from New Sharon.

From your public works Director

Thursday, May 16th, 2024 - Will be completely closing the mapped section of Bailey Hill Road for large culvert replacements. The expectation is that the road will be opened by the end of the day. Public works will update if anything changes due to weather, etc.
