"Comparison is the Thief of Joy"
On February 12th, 2019 Dustie White and Dusty Red had a crazy idea to start a little podcast that celebrated geek in all its forms and the nostalgia that came along with being 'just a little bit older'. Grey Muzzles was a term we've heard and used before and the name of Grey Muzzle Geekery was picked the same night we recorded our first show. As we recorded, we sat, drank whiskey, talked candidly like friends do, and simply celebrated being a geek in all manner.
We started to catch our stride doing weekly episodes, live episodes and even competing on 'Americas Next Top Pocaster', with Red and White respectively taking 4th and 3rd place. The show took a new direction with focused cues, segments and tried to hone in on the point of 'giving people a reason to listen'. Remember though, comparison is the thief of joy.
With the popularity of Podcasts reaching out toward mega-stars, comedians, political pundits and others who were respectively 'experts' in their field, not to mention the availability of time a vast majority of the world suddenly had due to a global pandemic, Red struggled with not comparing Grey Muzzle Geekery to other shows popping up offering a similar vein of geekery. With the stay-at-home orders in place, Red and White would eventually live together during the pandemic, attempting to keep the show going while trying to keep on the theme of geek culture (while much of it was on hold or delayed) and trying to keep the show feeling organic (which became tough as Red and White now lived together and daily conversations had to be re-hashed or re-had during recording).
Then 2022 came in like a wrecking ball, with Red having oral surgery, purchasing a house, and an increased workload due to a considerable work promotion. The excuses to delay the show begun to pile up and the passion started to wane. It also became more and more clear that both Red and White started to focus on finding new passions, as they felt that the communities they once belonged to didn't feel as such any more.
So while this isn't a 'Goodbye', this is more of a 'We'll possibly see you around in the future?'. Dustie White is planning on taking her knowledge, passion and an ear for Podcasts to apply those skills to her career, while Dusty Red will keep the 'Grey Muzzle Geekery' name going with Twitch Streams or other forms of entertainment. Heck, we may even post up a random episode or two about some of our new adventures and new passions!
Though, with that being said, we will be gradually removing ourselves from Patreon, starting by suspending all monthly charges. We CAN NOT thank everyone enough for supporting us during this project and we're especially thankful to those who made it possible to keep the show running with upgraded equipment and hosting fees! Lets not also forget to mention those who helped with Logo Art, Business Cards and Posters, took time to appear on the show, offered monthly donations and of course, those who spread the word and encouraged us along!
So farewell for now, Fellow Geeks. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts, and here's to the adventures that await.
Always remember, We are All Geeks. To be otherwise, is to live without passion. Goodnight.
